    .en log files

    In the folder "C:\Users\%USERNAME%\Documents\NinjaTrader 8\log" some files have a .en suffix and some do not. What is the difference?

    Sometimes the filespec contains the string "00000", but sometimes it's "0000n". What is the significance of the last digit?

    I would imagine the 'en' is a language identifier -- in this case English.

    Filenames like,

    log.20221221.00003.en.txt
    log.20221221.00003.txt

    means this is the 3rd log file created on Dec 21, 2022.

    Why '3'?
    The number increments every time you exit/restart NT on that date.
    After midnight the date changes and the log number restarts at '0'.

    [EDIT: Oops, the numbering is zero-based, so the '00003' log file is
    actually the 4th log file written, that is,
    log.20221221.00000.txt <== 1st log file
    log.20221221.00001.txt <== 2nd log file
    log.20221221.00002.txt <== 3rd log file
    log.20221221.00003.txt <== 4th log file
    Make sense?]

    -=o=-

    I suspect the 'en' log file is guaranteed to be English, because that's
    my language setting at Control Center> Tools> Options> Language.

    Change your NT language to German and restart NT, then you'd see
    'de' and the next log file would be in German -- as would the software
    itself -- the English 'en' suffix having been replaced by 'de'.

    However, the file with no language suffix, that file is guaranteed to
    always be in English, regardless of the NT language setting.

    I just tested this, yep ... that's what it does.

    Why do that?
    Why write two log files?
    Probably because (most of) support is/was USA-based, meaning most
    everyone employed in Support probably/usually speaks/reads/writes
    English very well -- so that extra 'always English' log file is critical to
    the Support team when you email them your log files.

    Just my 2˘.

      Thanks for the explain. Makes perfect sense.
