Hello,
Thank you for the message.
This error normally indicates that the user is on a Mac computer using Parallels that has not been configured as needed for NinjaTrader to run as expected.- This would mean the Windows side of the computer is sharing its files with the Mac side of the computer and this has been known to cause a variety of unwanted behaviors.
- To move forward, you will want to perform the steps below to fully separate the Windows and Mac sides of the computer and then reinstall NinjaTrader.
- Unfortunately, these steps will result in a fresh installation of NinjaTrader without any of your prior settings and will need to be reconfigured from scratch. If you need further information on how to back up these settings to bring into the new installation, please let us know and we will provide those steps.
If you are using a Mac, please follow along with the information and steps below:
When installing NinjaTrader on a Mac using Parallels users will need to ensure that the following steps have been taken prior to the installation of NinjaTrader.- Start Parallels and select your virtual machine
- Press the "Configure" button on the top
- Under "Options", select "Sharing"
- Uncheck "Share Mac" under "Share Mac User Folders with Windows"
This is an important step, please make sure this is done - Uncheck any other settings talking about "Sharing" or "Mirroring" between the Mac and Windows side of the PC.
- Press "OK" and restart the virtual machine
After performing the steps above, you will just need to uninstall and then reinstall NinjaTrader again and you should be ready to move forward.
Please use the steps below to download and install NinjaTrader 8:- Go to https://ninjatrader.com/GetStarted and enter your Email into the box provided and click 'Download'
Click 'Yes' or 'No' for a Free Demo of Live Market Data - Click the big maroon Download button above NinjaTrader 8
Once downloaded, double-click the file to run the installer
Make sure to leave the installation location set to its default location - Click Next through the prompts until it is finished installing
After installing the platform, run the program by double-clicking the "NinjaTrader" desktop icon. - If you requested a demo, enter the credentials in the connection window that pops up upon opening
- If you did not request a demo, click 'Skip'
From here you are ready to re-enter your License Key and set up a connection to Market Data and begin using the platform.
Please see the link below to find the connection guide for your Broker or Market Data Provider:

Thank you for your note.
The following instructions will explain how to backup your NinjaTrader 8 files.
Please note that the following list is the items you can choose to include or exclude from your backup (Configuration files, Database, Historical Chart Data, Log and Trace files, Market Replay Data, NinjaScript Files, Templates, Workspaces). Many users exclude the historical chart data, log and trace files, and Market Replay data to reduce the file size.
Follow these steps:- Open NinjaTrader 8 on the computer you wish to backup from and disconnect from any open connections if applicable
- Go to Tools > Export > Backup File
- Select which items you would like to backup and click 'Export'
- Email or Save the file to an external storage device. The file can be found in the Documents\NinjaTrader 8 Backup folder on your PC
Open NinjaTrader 8 on the computer you wish to restore to and disconnect from any open connections if applicable.- Open the email with the backup file or connect the external storage and save the backup file to a destination of your choosing (I recommend the desktop as it is easy to find)
- Go to Tools > Import > Backup File...
- Select the backup file you created from the location you saved it
I have also attached the publicly available Help Guide section regarding backup and restore below:
