    Es and mes won't roll

I rolled and es and mes didn't roll even though the charts say they did. 1 chart is giving data for 03-23 but the rest say that but are producing 12- 22 data. I tried manual roll and restart but not helping. How do I fix this? I have tried to email platform support for 3 days and all i get is server error!

Had the exact same and used the rollover function but charts didn't change. Manually added mes 03-23 and changed charts. It didn't remove my chart drawing objects, is that normal ?

yes it's normal that drawing objects remain - just that they won't be where you want them due to price change on new Contract!

Here's the solution from Ninja, I had a .sqlite file instead of the .sdf file. use this info at your own risk but the rollover worked for me and the charts seem to be fine at this point.

I'm unfamiliar with this particular error, but it seems to be referencing the database. I'd like you to create a brand new database file and see if the issue persists. We advise that you rename your database using the following steps :
          • Shutdown NinjaTrader and navigate to the Start Menu
          • Select My Documents--> NinjaTrader 8--> db--> "NinjaTrader.sdf" file (may only say 'NinjaTrader' depending on your Windows File Explorer settings)
          • Right click on NinjaTrader.sdf and select "Rename" *Name it "OLDNinjaTrader.sdf"
          • Then restart the software and NinjaTrader will create a fresh database file to use
          • Unfortunately the following items stored in the old database will be lost - Trading Hours templates, Instrument Lists / Custom Instruments, historical trade execution data, saved Strategy Analyzer backtest results

To prevent running into situations where you can potentially lose important data in the future, we advise running regular backups via our inbuilt backup feature in NinjaTrader.

Please feel free to write in with any additional items we may assist with. Thank you for choosing NinjaTrader.

#Jeramyb - thanks for thoughtfully posting the resolution to help others (something Support should do)

I lurk the Forum when there’s a new Release to get an idea of when it may be safe to update.

Could you clarify your comments re: sdf and SQLite file? Do you mean to say where the instructions read ‘Sdf’ yours was an sqlite, and you are on v27?

I’m familiar with the sdf file, but haven’t upgraded to 27 yet, and am guessing from what you write and v27 release notes the change to SQLite in 27 means the old sdf becomes an SQLite.

But why would Support give you instructions relating to an sdf file you don’t have?

I’m not being pedantic, just confused. I’m here to determine whether/when it may be safe to update to 27 or wait for .1. If 27 broke your sdf file converting to SQLite, for example, I’d like to know that. I keep backups weekly but that’s not the point - I don’t want to get involved in some problematic updating corrupting sdf file, recreating trading hours, reverting 27 to 26 etc et al.

            TIA

I'm new to Ninja so I'm not too sure about the file other than they both seem to be database files. I had some issues last week and uninstalled and reinstalled ninja, then I manually deleted everything including the Ninja 8 folder in documents. None of the issues were related to Ninja but rather to my trading account at the broker's end. As far as I'm aware the new updated Ninja (I didn't even know it was a new update) was working fine until I tried to roll the contracts then I'd get an error and Ninja would just shut down within a few seconds.

You are correct the instructions say SDF but I have an SQLite file. I have a second email out to Ninja to see what they say about the files being different.

If the older version is an SDF file you might be correct that there's an issue with Ninja, I never paid much attention to the files since I've only been using Ninja for about 45 days or so.

This is concerning to me as well since others are having the same error. I will attach a couple of pictures that I sent to Ninja.

I need to figure out the backup process, I was unaware it was an option since I used to trade on TOS.

                Thanks for that.

Unfathomable - hopefully Support will be able to sprinkle some pixey-dust.

The file you show in your pic is what has been .sdf file since NT6.5 and can confirm it is still .sdf in my current install NT8 v26.0

I noticed in the Release Notes for v27 (not yet installed) an announcement (top of the list) that v27.0 has migrated to .SQLite
                Features
                SQLite Database technology

                Database

                Feature Print()

We have updated our core internal database technology from the deprecated Microsoft SQL CE to SQLite. Supported / documented NinjaScript code will not be impacted by this change; however if you have specifically developed your Add-On to call or interact with the Microsoft SQL CE database you should review and update code for compatibility.

v27 wasn't released until 29th Nov and you've been using NT for 45 days so should be .sdf but you've got SQLite
So unless you upgraded since 29th you'd be on .sdf, but clearly you're not!

But why did Support give you instructions for sdf? That would have been appropriate for an install before 29th Nov.

Anyhoo, all very odd, beyond my paygrade.

I just don't want to install problems....

                Best,

I first installed Ninja around Halloween but removed it last week and installed it again. I didn't realize it had been updated or to be aware of any issues.

I got a reply which was either a copy and paste with poor editing or the individual still has the SDF version stuck in their head.

Everything seems to be working fine but I'm a novice Ninja user. Here's their reply.

                  Good luck!!

                  Hello,

                  Thank you for your reply.

                  My apologies, the instructions that I provided are for another version of NinjaTrader. I've provided updated instructions below;
                  • Shutdown NinjaTrader and navigate to the Start Menu
                  • Select My Documents--> NinjaTrader 8--> db--> "NinjaTrader.sqlite" file (may only say 'NinjaTrader' depending on your Windows File Explorer settings)
                  • Right click on NinjaTrader.sdf and select "Rename" *Name it "OLDNinjaTrader.sqlite"
                  • Then restart the software and NinjaTrader will create a fresh database file to use
                  • Unfortunately the following items stored in the old database will be lost - Trading Hours templates, Instrument Lists / Custom Instruments, historical trade execution data, saved Strategy Analyzer backtest results
