    Two blanks with each chart open on task manager

    Below is two blank instances open with each chart on task manager, when I close one, one blank goes away, is that normal??? I have been hacked bad and I am on a new server, please let me know asap!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks

    Thank you for your inquiry.

    Yes, this is normal. One of those entries is for the active tab within the chart window and the second one is the window itself. If there are 2 charts then it would make sense that there are also two of the 'blank' entries.

        Could you explain write and read lock errors, Also, when I erased the Ninja Trader to reinstall everything was still the same, Please tell me how to completely install the program to get a clear reinstall.

          Thank you for your reply.

          1. What specific read and write lock errors are you referring to? Can you please provide a screenshot of the errors you are encountering in your response?

          2. In order to completely start anew, you will need to make sure to either rename or delete the previous user data directory using the steps below;
          • Close all running applications.
          • Navigate to your Documents folder > Right-click on the 'NinjaTrader 8' folder > Rename > rename the folder to 'NinjaTrader 8 OLD'. DO NOT delete this folder.
          • Uninstall NinjaTrader within Windows Control Panel.
          • Navigate to C:\ > Program File (x86) > Delete the 'NinjaTrader 8' folder if it exists
          • Reboot your PC.
          • Once these steps are completed, download and install NT8 from the link below:
          ​The above process will give you a completely new installation without any of the previously saved items.

          I look forward to your response regarding item # 1.

                As far as I am aware, this error is usually generated by third party or custom add-ons and caused by conflicts in the way that they are utilizing resources and memory on your PC or due to the way that they are programmed. Does this error ever occur when you open a simple chart in Safe Mode?

                Safe Mode will prevent NinjaTrader from:
                • Loading workspaces.
                • Connecting on start-up.
                • Loading custom assemblies.
                • Getting instrument updates from the server.
                To enable safe mode, please use the following steps:
                • Exit NinjaTrader.
                • Hold the CONTROL key and double click the NinjaTrader icon.
                • Keep the CONTROL key held down until you see the Control Center.
                • You can verify you are in safe mode by going to Help -> About.
                Once you have opened the platform in safe mode:
                • Reconnect to your data provider from the 'Connections' menu
                • Please open a new chart with no custom bar types/indicators/templates and test for issues.
                  • Please note this will not delete your workspace however the new blank workspace will be named Untitled. If you have a workspace already named "Untitled," however, you will not want to save the workspace when exiting NinjaTrader, otherwise, it will overwrite it.

                    There's a whole thread about the write lock issue here:

                    Charts Crashing: Write lock may not be acquired with read lock held. - NinjaTrader Support Forum

                    And loads of other threads about it. The problem was introduced in Ninjatrader build 8.0.27.1 - it did not exist before then. Most people who have the problem are just staying on 8.0.26.1. (details on how to do this, and an installer is available at the above post)

                    Ninjatrader support are in denial about the problem. The problem does not exist in 8.0.26.1 and it does exist in all subsequent releases. It doesn't take a detective to work out that this is not actually a third-party problem but a Ninjatrader problem.​

                      First, please note that this is a forum post from prior to the release of 8.0.27.1. In the past, this error has exclusively been related to third party add-ons. However, I am aware that more recently people have been reporting the problem in the absence of third party add-ons. I would encourage anyone who is experiencing this to reach out to us via email with their diagnostic information so that we can investigate and attempt to reproduce the problem on our end. If we can reproduce it using only the pre-configured NinjaTrader components, we can get our Development team looking further into it so that a resolution can be reached.
