I have not been able to get any future charts data to show on Ninjatrader’s platform after I decided to start connecting through FOREX.com (City Index) last week. Forex chart data are showing up just fine without any issues, but futures and all the equities data are simply showing up as empty spaces. I have uninstalled and reinstalled NinjaTrader but it still did not work.
My initial emails to [email protected] and [email protected] on 30 Sept was replied by a somewhat helpful Adam Trujillo from NinjaTrader Client Services through [email protected]. However, his suggested solutions below still failed to resolve the issues.
Failed Solution 1:
“Please follow these steps to roll over the expiration date of a Futures contract:
- Navigate to the Control Center > Tools > Database window.
- Left-click the ‘Rollover’ button that appears just below the table under the ‘Rollover futures instruments’ section.
- Close this window when this process completes.”
Failed Solution 2:
“1. Ensure you are not using a simulated license key within the platform.
Go to HELP > LICENSE KEY, if the key begins with "@SIM" please remove it and input your designated license key.
2. Please refer to the connection guide linked below.
NinjaTrader Continuum Connection Guide
3. Please be sure to:
- Copy/Paste to avoid typos.
- Make sure there is no extra space at the end of the username.
- Make sure the box labeled "Demo" is not checked.”
After reporting all these failed attempts, an anonymous reply through [email protected] came with this most unhelpful response below on Wednesday 5 Oct 2022:
“You must stay in contact regarding any data inquires with your data provider, FOREX.COM.
We can only assist you with questions regarding data if you have solicited futures data through NinjaTrader.
Let us know if we can be of further assistance. “
I found a somewhat similar 2019 case with TD Ameritrade mentioned on this forum ( https://ninjatrader.com/support/foru...coming-through ) and the NinjaTrader support during that time troubleshooted the issue well enough to find out that TD Ameritrade only provides some data to NinjaTrader but not all. I forwarded this case to City Index who told me that there are previous NinjaTrader clients linked up via City Index (Forex.com brand) that were able to trade indices.
Another unrelated thread on the forum also proves this to be true, and City Index/Forex.com does provide futures data feed into NinjaTrader (https://ninjatrader.com/support/foru...-com-cityindex)
I have also tested out the below solution mentioned in this 2019 TD Ameritrade case, but again it is not working and the futures chart are still not showing:
Failed Solution 3:
“So we can further diagnose your system, start NinjaTrader in Safe Mode.
To enable safe mode, please use the following steps:
- Ensure NinjaTrader is shut down
- Hold the CONTROL key and double click the NinjaTrader icon.
- Keep the CONTROL key held down until you see the Control Center.
- You can verify you are in safe mode by going to Help -> About.
- Once NinjaTrader has started on just the control center, please connect to a data feed then open a new chart with no custom bar types/indicators/templates and test for issues.”
I have even gone to a non-Ninjatrader page here (https://www.xabcdtrading.com/blog/bl...ninjatrader-8/) to follow all the suggestions listed inside and it is still not working.
It has been 6 days since I asked for assistance on this issue, and right now, NinjaTrader has ended their email correspondence support with a “You must stay in contact regarding any data inquires with your data provider, FOREX.COM. We can only assist you with questions regarding data if you have solicited futures data through NinjaTrader”.
Can someone on this forum help?
