PC laggy. Can barely do anything

Hello. My NT8 has become almost unusable. I am running a two charts. One micro ES and one mini ES. I have two second entry type indicators on the mini, nothing on the micro. Tick chart on the mini and minutes on the micro. No indicators on the micro. It is "okay". The mini is almost unusable. Takes 15-20 seconds to click on something. Local crosshair is moves after a few seconds of mouse movement. I have everything on bar close. I barely have anything running. This PC is not great, but it runs photoshop with ease. Only have onboard video. Is that the problem? Here is a pic of the specs. I know it is older, but should NT8 really be running this bad with these specs? Thanks

    Hello Touch-Ups,

    Thank you for your note.

Let's try testing your platform in Safe Mode to verify if this behavior is being caused by a 3rd-party add-on using the steps below.

Safe Mode will prevent NinjaTrader from:
    • Loading workspaces and connecting on start-up.
    • Loading custom assemblies (i.e. 3rd-party add-ons and NinjaScripts)
    • Getting instrument updates from the server
To enable Safe Mode, please use the following steps:
    • Shut down NinjaTrader.
    • Hold the CTRL key and double-click the NinjaTrader icon.
    • Keep holding the CTRL key until you see the Control Center.
    • You may then verify you are in Safe Mode by going to Help -> About.
Once you have opened the platform in Safe Mode:
    • Reconnect to your Data Provider
    • Please open a new chart with no custom bar types/indicators/templates and test for issues.
Does the behavior persist on this blank Workspace in Safe Mode?
    • If not, please try opening your previous workspace by going to the Control Center > Workspaces drop-down. It may already show as being open. Hit 'close' and do not save and then re-open it again for your windows to re-appear. You will notice that no 3rd-party add-ons are running in Safe Mode.
Does the behavior return on your regular Workspace in Safe Mode?
    • If not, restart NinjaTrader, and test for the behavior on your Workspace normally once more with your 3rd-party add-ons available. If this reintroduces issues, I suggest rebuilding your workspace, adding 1 add-on at a time.
    • Please keep track of what add-ons you add back in to identify the cause of the behavior if it returns.
If it does not return, it indicates the error was isolated only to your other Workspace. I also suggest making a backup of your workspace so we can restore a working version of it if the issue returns. You will want to keep this backup file on an external hard drive or uploaded to a cloud drive such as Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive.

To create a backup, go to the Control Center > Tools > Export > Backup File. Additional information about backups may be read in our Help Guide linked here: NinjaTrader 8 Help Guide — Backup and Restore

Please let me know the results of this test. I look forward to your response. Thank you for choosing NinjaTrader.

Okay. I feel really stupid now. I tried everything, EXCEPT restarting NT. I couldn't because I am running an automated strategy experiment on the micro. I just did not think restarting was going to make such a difference. I did finally restart yesterday between sessions and everything is perfect now. Guess I will have to do that every day if this bogging continues. I will see how it does by end of session today. Thanks

Update.... It did do really well right after restarting, but within a few minutes the lagging started again. Not near as bad as before. I could still trade, but it is really difficult. As you move the mouse or click on something, there is a delay. Makes it really hard to place limit orders at a specific spot. Do I need a better computer or what?

          Hello Touch-Ups,

          Thank you for your note.

I would suggest rebuilding your workspace, adding 1 indicator at a time. Please keep track of what indicators you add back in so that we can narrow down what indicator is causing the issue if the issue returns. I also suggest making a backup of your workspace so we can restore a backup if the issue returns.
I have provided a link below to our Help Guide that goes over backing up and restoring.I have also provided a link below to our Help Guide that goes over performance tips for NinjaTrader 8 to prevent this in the future:To see what (if any) NinjaScript items may be contributing to the symptoms, please open the NinjaScript Utilization Monitor:
          • Control Center > New > NinjaScript Output
          • Right-click within the NinjaScript output window > Select 'NinjaScript Utilization Monitor...
          • This window will begin to populate with NinjaScript items in order of time spent processing
