Old Ninja config transfer to new Ninja

    Hi Ninja crew!

My Windows is broken and barely starts in safe mode. I need to copy a lot from my ninja 8 in order to paste it into the new one, which I will install on a fresh win 10. I use custom indicators, templates with their settings for each timeframe, special settings for trading hours.

Tell me, please, how can I competently transfer all this to the fresh Ninja 8?

Unfortunately I am doing the same thing this morning...

Support... when you answer above can you also confirm I should be able to import templates for settings on specific indicators. So far I have had no success copying the files into the same directory in the new NT install.

I even created a new indicator template from within the indicator preferences... creating a new .xml file in the proper directory. I then deleted the contents of that newly created XML and copied in the old data.

One gotcha I can think of is the old templates were created from a NT version from a few versions ago.

For some reason the preference file is not being recognized by NT when I attempt to load the file. I even closed NT and reopened.

    Any ideas?

How can I force NT to recognize the template XML files?

Well it may very well be an issue with creating a template in the older NT version...

I have a remote server and edited and saved a template file on it.. with the newer version of NT... and that worked.

Perhaps support you can confirm that templates created on older NT version don't play nice with the newer version....??

      Thanks

PS - sorry to hijack your post fniff... but it seemed relevant and in line with your issue.

Hi, thanks for posting. You can create a backup file that can include your config, database, templates, NinjaScript files, and other items (exclude Log and Trace as it's not needed).

If you can not access the platform, we can do this manually. All user data is stored within Documents\NinjaTrader 8. To get all of the important data, go into this folder and copy the folders into a flash drive:
        • bin
        • templates
        • workspaces
        • also, copy the Config.xml file.
Install NinjaTrader onto your new computer, insert the flash drive, and copy these folders and config file into the respective Documents/NinjaTrader 8 folder, saying "Yes" to replace the files.

Note, the reference path names will likely be different, so if NinjaTrader says "NinjaScript files have been reverted to originals", go to New>NinjaScript Editor, right click>References>re-point the references to any custom and default DLL files that are from the old hard drive. Right Click and Compile to check for any errors. If you get errors, please send a screenshot.

        Kind regards,
        -ChrisL

Hi fniff, all of the custom indicators are within the bin folder, so they will copy over as well.
