    NT not working. "Unhandled Exception" error

    I am facing issue with my NT8. When I run it, it gives "Unhandled Exception" error. Can you please guide how to resolve the issue.

    Hello chrafaqat,

    The error indicates a corrupted xml file. This could be the Config.xml, UI.xml, or a workspace xml file.

    First, please run the repair from the latest NinjaTrader installer (or update to the latest version) and see if this corrects the config and ui.
    • Shutdown all programs including NinjaTrader *important
    • Download NinjaTrader from the public link below
      Click here to download NinjaTrader
    • Double click the downloaded file to execute it
    • Follow the on screen instructions
    • Restart NinjaTrader

      Thank you so much Chelsea. I also received response through email from NT support team. The issue is resolved by renaming the file UI.xml to UIOld.xml in the NT8 folder.

        I am also having this error very frequently. When I rename the UI.xml file as mentioned above, everything is fine for a few days, but then the same thing happens again. Sometimes it happens when I'm not doing anything, other times trying to add a horizontal line to a chart will trigger the error. I've repaired the Ninjatrader installation, but it keeps happening. How can I fix this issue permanently?

        UPDATE: Now I get this error every time I try to add a horizontal line to a daily chart. I can add a horizontal line to the same chart when it's set to an intraday interval, but when I change it to a daily chart, the error happens every single time. If I change the instrument (e.g., NQ to ES), the same thing happens - it's fine intraday, but I cannot add a horizontal line to a daily chart. I've tried a completely different chart, and the same thing happens.

          May I have you also run the repair from the 8.0.27.1 installer?


          If you are able to reproduce after running the installer for the latest release, we may need to create a new environment folder.

            Hi Chelsea, I had run the repair from the 8.0.27.1 installer, and still had the same issue. If I set the interval to 390 minutes (which of course is the length of a trading day in minutes), it works fine. But change it to a daily interval, and the unhandled exception error happens every time.

              Hello DudleyDoright,

              This error is occurring when starting NinjaTrader and not when performing some action in window, correct?

              Before we create a clean environment, please try shutting down NinjaTrader, then delete the Documents\NinjaTrader 8\UI.xml file and then restart. Does the error still occur?

                Sorry for the delayed response - I've just been avoiding adding anything to a daily chart to get around this problem, which still occurs. Any time I try to add a drawing object (horizontal line, fib retracement, etc) to a daily chart, I get the "unhandled exception" error. If I change the same chart to 390 minutes to approximate a daily chart, it works just fine. But when I go back to a daily chart, the "unhandled exception" error happens every single time.

                This error does not occur when starting NinjaTrader; it occurs when I am trying to perform some action in a window - in particular, trying to add a drawing object to a chart while the platform is already running.

                I have deleted the UI.xml file many times and restarted, but the error still occurs. At the time I originally reported the problem, I was running 8.0.27.1, and now I'm on 8.1.1.6.

                  May I have you update to 8.1.1.7 and retest in a new blank workspace with all other workspaces closed on a new blank chart with no indicators added and no template applied?

                        Hello,

                        I updated to 8.1.1.7, created a new blank workspace with all other workspaces closed with a new blank chart as you suggested. No indicators added and no template applied. And the issue did not occur. I then tried adding back third-party indicators, and after adding the first one that I tried, I again got the unhandled exception error. So it appears that it is the third party indicator (Eminiplayer Intraday Suite) that is causing the problem. I will contact the developer and let them know of the issue. And in the meantime I'll remove it from my daily charts, for which it's not of use anyways (as you might surmise from the name).
