    NinjaTrader froze and now I can't get it back up even after reinstallation

    Hello,

    I was running Ninjatrader 8 and the PC froze for some reason. I had to reboot the PC and now NinjaTrader comes up with an error message (please see attached)

    and failed to start. I reinstalled NinjaTrader8 to be safe, but the same error message still show up and failed to start up. Please help, urgent {life time license user}.

    billythekid72 Bill, I'm sure NinjaTrader Support will respond; but given you specify "urgent" and it is the weekend in the US as I write this, you might want to read this thread: https://ninjatrader.com/support/foru...love-your-help

    In it, NinjaTrader Support offers a couple of ways to approach such issues, notably running NinjaTrader 8 in Safe Mode, and if that fails to fix the issue, a full reinstall following their instructions. See if that helps in the meantime.

      Hi Jeronymite,

      I was able to recover from the bad situation, but not as you suggested. In fact, running the Safe mode did not help, it simply hang the program. I did have a copy of the backup NinjaTrader 8 Documents folder, which I recover by writing it over the corrupted Documents folder, and voila like magic, it worked! Sure, I lost some work since the last backup, but it is light years better than what it was.

      Word to the wise, always backup the NinjaTrade Documents folder. Thanks.

        IMHO, one of the first emergency things to try is deleting
        the single file '_Workspaces.xml'.

        If NT comes up, then do a Reset and Repair of the database,
        see Tools -> Database Management.

        If that doesn't work, and you don't mind losing your historical
        trade data, exit NT, delete the file NinjaTrader.sdf, restart NT.

        Of course, any file you delete presumes you've made a full
        backup beforehand.

        My point is: there are several key files that, if not found, NT will
        re-create a fresh pristine copy on its own, at startup. Many
        times corruption of these files causes misbehavior in NT,
        so one way to fix that misbehavior is to exit NT, delete one
        or more of these key files, then restart NT.

        Be careful,
        This is very advanced knowledge, not for the faint of heart.

        I say it again, make a full backup before you attempt any
        kind of deep surgery like this.

          Hello billythekid72,

          This error '.', hexadecimal value 0x00, is an invalid character. Line 1, position 1.' is typically a corrupted xml file error.

          Could be a template, or the config or ui file.

          You mentioned you have downloaded the latest installer and run the update / repair, is this correct?
          I would expect that to have corrected any config or ui file issue.

          If you start without any workspaces in the workspaces folder is NinjaTrader able to start?

          You will find your workspace file (with the name of the workspace) in the following directory:
          - (My) Documents\NinjaTrader 8\workspaces\
          Chelsea B.NinjaTrader Customer Service
