High Internet Usage, would some users please confirm ?

    Greetings,

I'm having high downloading, NT Support has shown that this is normal. Currently, NT alone, with no data connections, downloaded 362 MB in 30 minutes. That's about 5 GB in 7 hours, about 2 full length movies.

I had Viasat Satellite October of last year for my internet connection. I could not have been downloading this much, I would have exceeded the data cap in 2 days. NT was downloading about 400 MB in 7 hours.

The screenshot below of NetLimiter 4, shows "DL (Download) Total" of 362.36 MB (Megabytes). I started at zero "DL (Download) Total", ran NT for 30 minutes, no NT data connections, and made the screenshot. So 362.36 MB (Megabytes) downloaded in 30 minutes.

I've edited this post, originally I was asking for a user to confirm that this is what they are experiencing & that it's normal. So some of the following posts are responding to unedited post.

So, when did this become normal, and why does NT have to download 5 GB in 7 hours ?

    Thanks

    Bruce

    Hello Bruce,

As mentioned, this is as expected. I experience the same on my end after I start NinjaTrader without connecting to any broker/data feed connection.

      What does that mean?
Why did you 'reset' the data?

By 'reset', do you mean 'delete'?

        Thanks for responding David,

I cleared (reset, deleted) the data to start at zero usage, ran NT for 30 minutes and made the screenshot. So the "DL (Download) Total", 362.36 MB (Megabytes) is what downloaded in 30 minutes.

I've edited my original post, to update and try to clarify the question. This is about Total Download, not rate (rate is the only thing the Task Manager shows). Also, this is apparently normal, so, when did this become the normal, and why does NT have to download 5 GB in 7 hours ?

        Thanks again,

        Bruce

Can you please check the size of the Documents-->NinjaTrader 8 folder. Right click the folder and select 'Properties'. Does it increase by 5GB for you each day?

Are you connected to a broker/data feed when it downloads 5GB in 7 hours?

Did you import any NinjaScript files or 3rd party add-ons just before you noticed the change?

Thanks for checking on this Jason,

I don't think anything's being saved, anywhere. My Documents-->NinjaTrader 8 folder is less than 600 MB.

I ran NinjaTrader, with NO connection to a broker/data feed for 30 minutes, then multiplied x 14 to estimate a 7 hour trading day at 5GB. So I've never run a more than the 30 minutes without a

I did NOT import any NinjaScript files or 3rd party add-ons, other than from NinjaTrader Example indicators. I program indicators myself, though, that sometimes turns out a bit scary.

I only recently noticed the change, I've not been very active since late last year. I would have noticed it last year, though, as I had a data cap which would have quickly been exceeded.

NinjaTrader_Jason and company, assure me that this is normal.

I no longer have a data cap, so it's not a problem, I guess. I'd had a data cap for the last 8 years, prior to about 3 months ago, and I've never seen 18 GB (today's total) downloaded in a day. I guess it's no big deal, I just never saw it living in the middle of no where in Texas, stuck with satellite internet. And renting space & computers in Chicago, is a bit, just a bit, out of my budget.

I suppose if I ever have to get back on a data cap, it won't be a problem, I would think even restricted downloading would still be fast enough.

            Thanks again,

            Bruce
