Text and Email notifications suddenly not working

In the last week or so, all text and email notifications have stopped working. I get this message "The SMTP server requires a secure connection or the client was not authenticated. The server response was: 5.7.0 Authentication Required. Learn more at" (it gets cut off here). My Share Service is "Email" and its Credentials have not changed. I am using the following settings, and even my "Send e-mail test" has stopped working.

Type: Gmail
Server: smtp.gmail.com
Port: 587

I have verified my email username and password are correct.

Any ideas if anything has changed on the gmail side or if there is something on my end, like Windows firewall from a recent update?

Thank you for your note.

Gmail recently announced that they will be turning on 2FA (2 factor authentication) by default for all users, and it sounds like that change may have affected your email setup.

This means you will need to create what's called an application password that you'd use in place of your regular gmail password. Instructions to create an app password may be found in Google's publicly available documentation here:

Please let me know if using an application specific password does not correct the error.
