Some drawings not saving when workspace saved during session and on shutdown

    Hi there,

I've had this issue with the last several versions of NT, not just the latest .26 update. Especially in the case of text, but also lines, arrow lines and other drawings, global and non.

The biggest issue is when I've added drawings during a session, then go to workspaces > hover over active workspace > "save" while the trading session is still in process. If I save my workspace this way during a live session or in replay and an unexpected NT8 shutdown occurs, sometimes no drawings save and other times only some save.

This should work to save workspace changes since the last save, correct? I shouldn't have to fully shut down NT (close control panel and then select "save workspace") for changes to save?

I have the same issue even with a full save-and-shutdown, though typically only a few drawings will be missing. I follow the same process as above multiple times during a session, then close my connection, select the "X" to close to control panel, and select "yes to all" to save all workspaces. However when I re-open the workspace, some drawings, especially text, won't be saved.

Please see the 2 videos below.

    Hello Justin,

When you select save at Control Center-->Workspaces, it will save the workspace. You don't have to shut down NinjaTrader.

The videos both show the Playback connection is used. Can you please tell me if it only happens when using the Playback connection. Do you experience drawing objects disappearing when using a broker/data feed connection?

Upon testing on my end, I notice that drawing objects drawn in the future are not present anymore in the next session. With "future" I refer to the space in the chart where no price bars are plotted. Your 2nd video shows the same. There are 4 arrow lines, 2 green and 2 red. The first green arrow line is drawn where there are price bars. The other 3 are drawn in the future which are not present anymore in the next session.

Do all drawing objects that disappear have this in common - they are drawn in the future when using the Playback connection?

      Thanks for the response Jason,

It does happen in both replay and when connected to live data.

In terms of where objects disappear - in the current / past vs. the future...

It's MUCH more common for the objects in the future to disappear vs. where there has been price action already, but it does happen in both locations. I consistently lose almost every object located in the future sections of charts, whereas objects in the past/present sometimes aren't saved, but it's less common.

I will say, when I lose objects in the past/present area, they're almost always text that's not attached to bar/price.

In fact, objects that aren't attached to bar/price are almost always the ones I have issues with. Rarely if ever do I lose lines, rectangles, etc. attached to bar/price, but objects lost in chart space for the past/present are usually text placed in the open space next to candles. This would also mean the objects are also always on single charts (not global).

      To summarize...

I have this issue with live data and replay
Objects in the future disappear with much more consistency but it does happen in both areas
In the areas with price action, it's almost always objects like text that aren't attached to bar/price

      Cheers,

      Justin

        Hi Jason,

Here's a video from this morning. Still in replay but you can see text in the space where there is price data is lost on one chart (on the left) but not on the other. Both charts lose everything in the future, while one chart keeps the text in past / current and the other loses the text in the past / current.

I tried the save process that's been more effective for me, so I saved the workspace, disconnected from replay, then closed NT and saved the workspace again - but it still happened.

#justinb - in case you are not, you might want to be aware of currently ongoing https://ninjatrader.com/support/foru...pening-a-chart
          which seems likely related.
Numerous changes in behaviour re: drawing objects, workspace saving etc

brucerobinson, thank you for sharing the forum link.

justinb-NQ, are the drawing objects, global drawing objects? The 'Attach to' setting in the properties menu of the drawing object determines if a drawing object is global (All charts).

              Hi Everyone,

I did see that post from Ascend Trading and watched his video, and that seems to be a different issue. I couldn't find anything matching my issue so I started a new thread. But thanks for checking!

No, these are not global objects. I tried to explain that in my 1st post yesterday. Global objects and/or objects attached to bar/price seem to save fine. The objects I'm having issues with are all on a single chart and are drawn in open space.

              Cheers,

              Justin

                Hello Justin,

I'm able to reproduce that drawing objects applied in the future are not saved when using the Playback and saving the workspace when exiting NinjaTrader. I will create a bug report and forward it to development. Thank you for reporting.

I apply two Text drawing objects in the chart. One Text object where there are price bars and one in the future. I then disconnect the Playback, exit NinjaTrader and save the workspace. Subsequently I start NinjaTrader and connect to the Playback. It only has the Text drawing object present where there are price bars. The Text object in the future is not present anymore.

                  Thank you Jason,

Did you see the recording I added to the thread on 6/5 that shows some text in the past, not the future, still not saving? I agree it's much more prevalent in the future but it does seem to happen in the past as well, just more intermittently - at least in my experience

Thank you for submitting the report!

I will need a reproducible scenario for the drawing objects in the past for a bug report. I have not been able to reproduce that so far on my end. If you are able to find out reproducible steps for drawing objects in the past, please let me know.

Did you see my post from 6/5 at 11:56am where I posted a screen recording of this issue along with the steps I followed to save the workspace beforehand? Here's the link to the video again, unless you mean you need something different?

I will continue testing and try to find a reproducible scenario for drawing objects that are drawn where there are price bars.

This is still reproducible for me on latest version. I see few text drawings disappear.
