    Restoring Workspaces

I use a third party program for many of my trade management activities. The program creates a generic indicator which can be installed many times on each chart and configured in various ways to create disparate action buttons in the ATM bar, e.g., buy/sell one tick past previous bar, one tick past close of current bar; close open position at close of bar; close at breakeven plus a tick offset; etc.

The vendor makes frequent program updates.

He has suggested that one should remove the program before installing the new version. Because removing the program, deletes all the configured indicators from the charts, I've been creating templates of the charts before uninstalling his program and then adding the templates back after installing the new program version (the vendor has defined this as a best practice). This is time consuming.

Can I just backup my workspaces before uninstalling the program and then restore my workspaces after I've installed the new program version, or are there additional NT components which would have to be backed up and restored to make this work?

    Hello sgordet,

I'm not sure if backing up workspaces will restore the 3rd party indicator after removing the old version and then installing a new version.

You can create a backup as per the instructions at the link below.
    https://ninjatrader.com/support/help...ng_a_backup_ar chive.htm

To restore backup files, please see the following link.

If this does not work, please use chart templates to restore the indicator as the vendor informed.

When I save only the workspaces, am I also saving the chart templates?

When you save a workspace, it will save all charts and other windows with their settings. So if a chart has a chart template applied, those settings will be saved. However I'm not sure if this works with the 3rd party add-on after you remove and reinstall it. I suggest to do both workspaces and templates. Try the workspaces first. If that does not work, then restore with the templates.

          Thanks, Jason.
I hadn't noticed that NT separately saves the templates. Theoretically, wouldn't saving both the templates and workspaces solve the problem. The vendor isn't suggesting that one would need to create new templates--it's sufficient to reinstall the old ones.

I'm not sure - I don't know how the 3rd party indicator behaves in such a situation. I recommend to follow the instructions from the 3rd party vendor. You could try your suggested way with workspaces first. If that does not work, then please use the instructions from the vendor.
