Searching Canadian ( and other non-deafult) ticker- interactive brokers connection

I have an IB feed set up and I understand that the default NT8 instruments are NYSE and NASDAQ related

I understand that adding other Instruments and symbols are possible and can be done manually and also using a list. (https://ninjatrader.com/support/help...stock_symb.htm)

I also understand that you have to map the symbol to the stock exchange in which it is traded.

    1) I have searched and cannot find an updated list that I can download from the TSX. Does anyone have the list or have a link to a tutorial on how to get this. Or even connect an API.
    2) is there a way to directly search for and load an instrument from the chart in NT8? For example, using a prefix or a suffix such as BNS.C or BNS.TSE or BNS@TSX?? XLB.ARCA That would be really simple but I doubt it's that easy with NT8

I am very disappointed by the complexity of just looking up symbols in NT8. I was expecting to be able to draw from my data feeds with IB via NT8 with a few clicks

    Welcome to the forums pcinkpen!

NinjaTrader does offer Instrument searching functionality when you type into the chart's Instrument Selector (top left)

In order for items to be searchable, they need to be in the local instrument database. NinjaTrader has many popular instruments included in a database, often with symbol mapping already configured. You can try opening a chart by directly entering a symbol, which will add a "stock" type instrument using that mapping, however, if the symbol needs custom mapping that needs to be entered into the instrument definitions manually.

With Interactive Brokers, getting involved with the symbol mapping can be tricky, but is not as complicated once a few notes are taken with how the mapping is set up.

    Bars/Pipes with symbol mapping
    • A symbol map can have up to 4 'bars' after the symbol
    • Format:
      • symbol|exchange|multiplier|multiplier|currency
    • Typically, only the first bar for the exchange needs customization.
    Currency/Denomination with symbol mapping
    • Currency for non-US exchanges needs to match the currency of the instrument's exchange
    • If a different currency is used, a different symbol will be mapped and you can see errors like "Please verify your symbol mapping is correct for instrument XXX Default"
      • For AHT|LSE, we can select London Stock Exchange as the exchange, and we can set Currency to British Pound to request the LSE symbol
    Suggestion:

Try setting the symbol map to be: SYMBOL|TSE and also have Currency set to Canadian Dollar and also make sure Toronto Stock Exchange is checked in the instrument's exchange.

Custom symbols will be added in the Control Center's Tools > Instruments menu, by pressing the add button. (You can also look up and edit existing instruments or new symbols that were created from a chart.)

Please share some screenshots showing what you have tried if you are still stuck.
