Running backtest On VPS
Is it possible to backtest my NT8 script, not on my computer, but maybe on a VPS, or some other hosting servers? It's near impossible to develop an accurate backtest because of the amount of processing power it takes to backtest a script using Granularity.
Thanks.Tags: None

Hello AdeptistJune,
You are posting in the NinjaTrader 7 section of the forums and mentioning a NinjaTrader 8 script.. I am moving this thread to the NinjaTrader 8 section of the forums.
You can backtest on any computer or VPS that has internet and a connection for data that meets the minimum requirements.
To export a NinjaTrader 8 NinjaScript so this can be shared and imported by the recipient do the following:- Click Tools -> Export -> NinjaScript...
- Click the 'add' link -> check the box(es) for the script(s) and reference(s) you want to include
- Click the 'Export' button
- Enter a unique name for the file in the value for 'File name:'
- Choose a save location -> click Save
- Click OK to clear the export location message
- (My) Documents/NinjaTrader 8/bin/Custom/ExportNinjaScript/<export_file_name.zip>

One last question:
If I wanted to run about a 6 month backtest on a VPS, using intra-bar Granularity at a tick level, how much CPU and processing power would I need?
Thanks.

Hello AdeptistJune,
There would not be a way for us to predict this.
It depends on the hardware of the computer, the specific logic coded in the script, the number of new objects being generated, the amount of data, the volatility of the data, and the parameters used.Chelsea B.NinjaTrader Customer Service

We can help you run your tick level back tests on our VPS, and also offer 1:1 screen sharing support to help you set everything up, and have 24/7 tech support.Originally posted by AdeptistJune View PostHello,
Is there any documentation on configuring NT8 with VPS?
From our experience, you'll want at least 8gb RAM for granular back tests, and the 16gb RAM VPS for optimizations because it is a brute force operation and uses all of the CPU and memory resources it can.

Yes, it is possible to perform backtest on a VPS or Dedicated Server.Originally posted by AdeptistJune View PostIs it possible to backtest my NT8 script, not on my computer, but maybe on a VPS, or some other hosting servers? Thanks.
You will require at least 8GB of RAM and 4 Cores of CPU of processing power to run the backtest. If you can afford something more, the better.

Do you also provide help with Ninjascript coding for optimizations runs the way NinjaMobileTrader VPS does?

I'm running all my backtests and optimizations on NinjaMobileTrader VPS, works great! They have no shared CPU and all resources are dedicated so I can run the CPU at 100% usage all day with backtests and strategy optimizations. I've had other cheaper providers tell me that their VPS are shared and didn't like that I was using 100% CPU, but no problems with NinjaMobileTrader VPS.
Also the other reason they've earned my trust is they showed me how to copy trade between multiple different Rithmic accounts, so I've got Apex, Bulenox, and TopStep Rithmic all copy trading between them.

Reach out to our live chat, we can let you run some tests for free on one of our AMD Ryzen dedicated servers.
