    Normal Memory Usage

What is the average platform memory usage for a workspace with no open charts? (only workspace open)
    Mine is running at 6GB.

That seems very high to me.

    Hello mlprice12,

    Thank you for writing in.

Do you have any windows open at all in the Workspace? If so what?

If you have absolutely nothing open and it is just a blank Workspace, 6 Gb of Ram usage seems high.
Here is a screenshot of my Windows Task Manager with NinjaTrader opened directly to a Blank Workspace:
    • Click image for larger version

Size:	33.4 KB
ID:	1196656
      • So, we can see my platform is only using 222.4 MB of RAM.

Please perform the following Test to see if NinjaTrader still uses the same amount of RAM when opened in Safe Mode. Then use it to create a Basic or Empty workspace and then open NinjaTrader like normal to that Basic/Empty Workspace and compare performance:

Safe Mode will prevent NinjaTrader from:
    • Loading workspaces.
    • Connecting on start-up.
    • Loading custom assemblies.
    • Getting instrument updates from the server.

To enable safe mode, please use the following steps:
    • Exit NinjaTrader.
    • Hold the Ctrl (Control) key and double click the NinjaTrader icon.
    • Keep the Ctrl (Control) key held down until you see the Control Center.
    • You can verify you are in safe mode by going to Help -> About.

Once you have opened the platform in safe mode:
    • Reconnect to your Data Provider
    • Go to Control Center > Workspaces > New > Give this Workspace a unique name like "Test" and click OK
    • Open a new chart with no custom bar types/indicators/templates
      • Check the RAM usage in the Task Manager, how is it?

If the RAM usage is low in Safe Mode, go to Control Center > Workspaces > hover over the workspace you just made and click Save.
    • Once saved, hover over all other open Workspaces and click Close until only the Test Workspace you just made is open

Now, click X out of the platform and select "No" to "Do you want to save changes"

Now reopen the platform like normal. It should open to the Test workspace you just created.
    • Is the RAM Still low or did it spike up again now that you are here in Normal mode?
    • If the usage is low, try opening the Workspace you were using before, does the RAM usage start going up?

Please let us know the results of this test.

I was seeing the large RAM usage with no windows open at all.

The RAM is low in the test workspace and only increasing after opening a preexisting workspace.

The original high RAM usage was after closing down my main workspace and opening a new blank workspace.

        Hello mlprice12,

        Thank you for the response.

While NinjaTrader is in use, files will be loaded into the RAM as you use the platform.

The only way to release those files from the RAM is to fully Restart the NinjaTrader platform.

Simply closing a Workspace does not cause the RAM to let go of those files so that is why you still saw high RAM usage after closing the workspace.
