Is it even possible for there to be gaps between range bars?

Is this an issue or am I just crazy? Shouldn't the close of one bar always be equal to the open of the next bar?

    Hello WalterSkinner,

    Thank you for the question.

With a Range bar, it is possible to have a gap in the chart.
This happens when a Range Bar's last movement finishes on one price level and the starting price of the next bar is at the next price level up/down.

      Hi Clayton,

I may have worded this poorly.

It looks like the way NT handles range bars is limited. The gaps look like they are the result of NT being unable to keep up with price. In the case of ES where liquidity isn't an issue there would be no gaps in perfect range bars, no? I'm not questioning whether the gaps exist or not I am questioning whether this is a limitation in the platform because theoretically (provided liquidity isn't an issue) wouldn't it be impossible for a gap to exist if the platform is capable of keeping up?

        Hello WalterSkinner,

        Thank you for the update.

The Range Bars are working as expected.

The gaps in the Range Bars have nothing to do with the performance or speed of NinjaTrader.

The gaps exist due to the fundamental nature of the Range Bars and how they work.

A Range Bar will be the Price range that is defined by the Interval. So, if it is a 5 Range Chart, each bar will include 5 Ticks worth of price movement from the starting price.
        • Imagine your 5 Range bar on the ES starts building at 1000.
        • This bar will include the values 1000, 1000.25, 1000.50, 1000.75, 1001.00, and 1001.25. The moment the market makes it up to 1001.50, it starts building another bar there. Or, if the market turned around and went all the way back down to 999.75, this would cause a new bar to start forming as well.
