playback connection

When logged in to nj, do I need to keep the Internet connection all the time? Sometimes I use limited network traffic. For strategy development related, such as using playback connection, the data has been downloaded.

An internet connection would be needed to start up NinjaTrader and verify the license at startup. It would also be needed to connect to any data feed for real-time or historical data, as well as to download market replay data.

No internet connection is necessary once NinjaTrader is started if you do not require a connection. For example, when creating NinjaScript strategies.

You would only need to be connected to the internet during the initial start-up of NinjaTrader so that NinjaTrader is able to verify the license at startup.

After the initial startup of NinjaTrader, you would not need to be connected to the internet if you do not need an internet connection for what you are doing. For example, an internet connection would not be required to develop strategies in a NinjaScript Editor window but you would need an internet connection for downloading Market Replay/Playback data.

Thanks for your note.

The Market Replay/Playback connection uses downloaded market replay data to mimic the data as if it were running real-time.

You would need an internet connection to download the market replay data. Then once that data is downloaded to your machine, you could disconnect from the internet and that data on your machine would be used for running the Playback connection.

If you need to use real-time data to run a strategy, you would need to connect to the internet. It would not be possible to connect to your IQFeed data feed connection without being connected to the internet.

If you are using a firewall to limit traffic, you would need to allow NinjaTrader through the firewall if you plan to use real-time data. You would also need to be connected to the internet to use real-time data.
