....would you like to replace the existing file?

Hi, there is an ambiguity in the dialogue box that appears when uploading a ninjascript add-on.

file(indicator that is part of the script)....already exists on your computer....would you like to replace the existing file?

Is it asking if I'd like to replace the file on my computer, or replace the file in the script with the one on my computer?

    Hello trader3000a,

    Thanks for your post.

When installing an add-on, if there is an existing source file with the same name the installer will check to see if you want to replace that file on your PC with the add-on file. There are a couple of cases to consider when that question pops up.

Background: When an add-on is exported, it will generally include any supporting related source code files. For example, if the add-on uses an EMA then the EMA would be included with the export.

When you download and install an add-on, if the add-on includes standard NinjaTrader indicators, such as EMA it will ask if you want to replace @EMA with the add-ons @EMA. And in that case, we would advise saying NO because you presumably are using the current version of NinjaTrader and the system indicators in your current version could be different than the version in the add-on which may have been created many versions ago. Generally, system indicators do not change but it is a recommended practice to say no to any older indicator that begins with the @ symbol which designates a system indicator.

If the pop-up message references a file that does not have the @ symbol then that would be asking if you want to replace a non-system file and this would suggest that you already have a version of that file on your system so you need to read the pop-up carefully as it will advise if the version on your PC is newer or not if it is older. This would be the case for "Updating" a script you already have.

Here are our general guidelines for installing add-ons:

Note — To import NinjaScripts you will need the original .zip file.

    To Import:
    1. Download the NinjaScripts to your desktop, keep them in the compressed .zip file.
    2. From the Control Center window select the menu Tools > Import > NinjaScript Add-on...
    3. Select the downloaded .zip file
    4. NinjaTrader will then confirm if the import has been successful.
Critical - Specifically for some NinjaScripts, it will prompt that you are running newer versions of @SMA, @EMA, etc. and ask if you want to replace, press 'No'
