TD Ameritrade vs Interactive Brokers to STOCK trade?

I wanted to reach out into the NT community to find out what most people are using to trade stocks with NT8 at this point in time. Which one of these brokers offers the most best (not necessarily perfect) solution? Thanks

Beware, NT has lots of problems with TD that they're not fixing. The Time and Sales window is slow and incomplete, there's no after-hours trading, the SuperDOM will not show Level II data for equities (even with IB), orders that are closed will remain on the chart like they're still open (trying to close them again will display an error).

They say IB works better with NT, but then you're paying commissions because their IBKR Lite product does not support API access. Note: Commissions for the API are different than their normal commission rate.

Thanks for the info clabough. Based on your feedback, I have opened an IB acount and funded it. I spoke with IB directly and they confirmed what you said about having to pay commissions on he stock trades though the cost is 0.05 cents per contract with a min of 1 dollar. I have followed the instructions on the NT website, downloaded TWS and made connection to my IB paper trading account. That part went well and without issue. IB stated that I can place paper trades to begin my testing until the ACAT transfer has finalized and the funds are available for live trading. Once live trading is possible, I will place a single ETF trade through NT to see how well the interface works in the way of speed of order and displaying results on my NT8 chart. If there are no problems there, then my next step is to apply my strategy to SPY and see how well my strategy automation/ interface work together. Also, to be clear, I will be using Kinetick data as my strategy needs historical tick data. I will post back when I have the results of my testing.

Hello everyone,
I wanted to follow up my live stock trading experience with IB. I had used TD in the past and it was not a good experience. Therefore after posting the question to the group and getting feedback that IB was better, I decided to test the NT with IB experience with stock trading. In a nutshell, it went very well. My strategy triggered a trade on SPY and it very quickly filled. An IB popup appeared reflecting my time of entry, trade position, current P/L and commission of 1 dollar but the buy and later 1 dollar for the sell. As it was only a test, I just traded 20 contracts. Chart trader quickly reflected my entry price as well as my stop and target. I would definitely recommend IB over TD based on my experience today. I will continue to test my strategy for stock trading and if any issues come up I will be sure to let the community know.
