Failed to call OnRender() for chart object 'Line":

'Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt.'

    Hi,

I just realised I got the above message on the NT8 Control Panel 6 hours ago. What does this mean? Is there a cause for concern?

    Regards
    Kay Wai

    Hello kaywai,

    Thanks for your post.

'Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt' Often means that an object that is on the chart encountered a programming error in it's SharpDX rendering code. When this happens, the object will disappear from the chart.

This particular error is coming from a Line drawing object which comes with NinjaTrader. We made some changes to our drawing tools some time ago to address these issues. It is possible that importing an older script reintroduced the old drawing tool scripts that can exhibit this issue.

I first would suggest to download a NinjaTrader installer and update, or to run a Repair operation if you are already updated to ensure the latest versions of the drawing tools are installed.

Update installers can be downloaded here - https://ninjatrader.com/PlatformDirect

If issues persist after this, please send me an email at platformsupport [at] ninjatrader [dot] com with the text "Attn Jim 3274582" I may then ask for log and trace files and have other troubleshooting steps to suggest to move forward.

    We look forward to assisting.

      Hi Jim,

      Thank you for your reply.

      1) The error was only highlighted once. It did not repeat the message. So i'm not sure if it was a one-off
      2) I'm not sure which indicator was causing it as I was running 2 charts with 3 indicators on them and the indicators between the charts are identical.
      3) I think I'm running the most updated version of NT7 -v7.0.1000.42. So it could likely be the indicator which i've had for a good 6 or 7 years and there is a serialization issue with it in recent months. I don't know how to fix it as I got it coded for me. Let's just say the relationship with the programmer didn't end well.
      4) How do you run a repair operation?

      Regards
      Kay Wai

        Hello kaywai,

        Thanks for your message.

OnRender is from NinjaTrader 8, and would not be in NinjaTrader 7. The Line drawing object is a NinjaTrader 8 object made from the Lines Drawing Tool script. (Indicators may use these Drawing Tool scripts to draw lines on a chart.) This is a standard NinjaTrader component and is not a custom component. Updating NinjaTrader will apply the the latest Drawing Tool source code, and you should not see those errors after doing so.

If you are on the latest version, you can run a Repair operation from the NinjaTrader 8 installer, and the latest Drawing Tool scripts we provide will overwrite those on your platform. (If you were on the latest version, and then clicked "Yes" to overwrite some drawing tool scripts when importing a custom script, you might have overwritten the newer drawing tools with older drawing tools.)

        4) How do you run a repair operation?
If you are updated to the latest version, and run the installer for that version, you will be able to select the Repair operation.

            Hello kaywai,

You would not have to backup the platform to run a Repair operation, you would only have to make sure the platform is closed.

However, if you want to learn more about creating and restoring backups, please see below.

I too have this error - already downloaded the repairs and it still persists.
              Can you assist?

                Hello Mindset,

Do you see this happen with 'Line' as well? Could you also copy the full error that you see?

If the issue is easily reproducible, please try to narrow down to a specific chart where the issue manifests. (Test a copy of your workspace and eliminate charts while testing to reproduce the error until the issue goes away. The last chart that you removed would have the issue there.)

Once we are down to one chart the causes the issues, please save that workspace file, and email it to me with you log and trace files. Please also let me know how you are reproducing the issue specifically. You may reach me at platformsupport [at] ninjatrader [dot] com and you can send all this information to me from the platform under Help > Email Support.

                Be sure to include:
                • Text " Attn Jim 3274582" Please also include a link to this thread
                • The name of the workspace with the isolated chart
                • What you do specifically to make the error appear
                • Check 'Log and Trace Files' and 'Other > Workspace files and UI settings'
I look forward to hearing from you.
