Saving files NT8 files on seperate hard drive or dorpbox

    Hi,

I would like to save/transfer all tick data from documents folder which is on my hard drive to dropbox. I want to be able to run the back tests from the other location. How can I achieve this?

    Thanks,

In both cases, NT8 needs to get the historical data from,

    "<User>\Documents\NinjaTrader 8\db"

Dropbox is just a convenient transfer mechanism, you should
not consider using Dropbox (or OneDrive) as a substitute or
    proxy for your Documents folder.

Assuming Machine A collects the tick data because it is constantly
    connected to a real-time connection, and ...

Assuming Machine B is not connected to a real-time data feed
but can access same Dropbox as Machine A, then ...

I suggest exiting NT8 on Machine A, copy the db/Tick/* folders to
a location in your dropbox, then restart NT8.

On machine B, exit NT8, copy the files from the Dropbox location
to Machine B's db/Tick folder, then restart NT8.

Do the NT8 exit-copyto-dropbox-restart on Machine A at a known time.

Do the NT8 exit-copyfrom-dropbox-restart on Machine B right after that.

This kind of once-a-day transfer should work fine.

I only want to store the data in an external drive for back testing purposes. How do I go about that...I will not be using the external drive realt time.

You can copy and store your data to wherever you like, such as your
Dropbox, OneDrive, Google drive, or your external hard-drive.

But these locations are for your personal archival purposes only.

This archival location does you no good for back-testing.

NT8 is hard-coded to look for its historical data files in these folders,

        "<User>\Documents\NinjaTrader 8\db\Tick"
        "<User>\Documents\NinjaTrader 8\db\Minute"
        "<User>\Documents\NinjaTrader 8\db\Day"

Full stop. End of story. There is no config parameter that controls
the location of the historical data files ... it is hard-coded.

The problem you have is getting the data from your archival location
back to the correct folder that NT8 requires ... well, that's up to you.

          Hello bjunaid,

          Thank you for your post.

Glad to assist. At this time changing the folder directory used via NinjaTrader is not supported

Please let us know me know if I may assist further.

I might have to find a work around to this problem.
