    Hello Ickbert,

    Thanks for writing in today.
It is not possible to open an instrument with a '.' in the instrument's name. Instrument names in NinjaTrader can only contain letters, digits, and underscores.
In addition, RDS.A is not a built-in instrument and would need to be manually mapped.

NinjaTrader comes preloaded with the most commonly traded instruments. Should you wish to add an instrument to your database that is not located in the preloaded lists, please follow these steps:
    • Navigate to the Control Center > Tools > Instruments window.
    • Left-click on the ‘add’ button that appears near the lower right-hand corner of the Instruments window.
    • Enter instrument-specific symbol mapping, exchanges, and other information on the Instrument editor that appears. This information will largely depend on your broker or data feed provider’s specific settings regarding the instrument in question.
    • Left-click the OK button once each field has been filled out with correct information.
Keep in mind that you will need to obtain the symbol mapping information from your broker.

Please let us know if you have further questions.

      Hello Giovanna

      Thank you for the feedback.

It doesn't sound good that it is not possible to open an instruments with a dot. Is this planned as an update for the future? I really hope so, as it would be an important feature.
Adding a ticker via "Control Center > Tools > Instruments" is not an option for me, it takes way too long and is way too cumbersome.

      Thanks.

        Hello Ickbert,

        Thanks for your reply.
Adding an instrument is something that would only need to be done one time. Once an instrument has been added it can be loaded into a window by searching for the instrument name or by selecting it from a list.

This process is only necessary for instruments or 'tickers' that are not included in the platform by default. As mentioned previously, NinjaTrader comes preloaded with the most commonly traded instruments.

Can you clarify why you believe adding a dot in the instrument name would make an important feature? I can then submit a feature request for this.

Please let us know if you have further questions.
