Zero Ninjatrader References suddenly in Visual Studio

Visual Studio can't find the references path for ninjatrader as I have 0 references in my strategies & any indicator I view in VS (some will show but not all of them). Ninjatrader works fine as I compile & run the strategies / indicators so it must be something with VS, but I'm not sure what it may be because I didn't tamper with the reference path as VS was working property last time I used it, as of two days ago.

I also tried restoring my computer when I had a GPU update two days ago but it's still the same problem.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello sentient254,

    Thank you for your inquiry.

Let's have you run a repair on NinjaTrader and ensure you're opening Visual Studio from the VS button in the editor. To do so, shut down both NinjaTrader and Visual Studio. Once closed, go to the Uninstall a Program section of the Windows Control Panel. Find NinjaTrader in the list, right click on it and select "Repair". Once the repair is complete, restart NinjaTrader, open a NinjaScript Editor window and launch Visual Studio using the button in the Editor. Do you see references once you've run the repair?

Thanks in advance; I look forward to assisting you further.

Hi Kate I had to download the latest version of the installation package as I probably deleted it a few months ago when I first got Ninjatrader & it seems that it's the incorrect installer & it won't repair. Would the next course of action is to save my strategies separately & just reinstall ninjatrader as a whole?

Also it seems Ninjatrader won't open as it's stuck in a configuration mode as I don't have the correct installation package

          Hello sentient254,

          Thank you for your reply.

If you got an error trying to do the repair that would imply there's something wrong with the installation. Please follow the steps listed below to completely uninstall and reinstall NinjaTrader so we can make sure that no files from the old version's back end may be causing conflicts. Following the steps below will keep all your scripts and data intact.
          • If possible, copy your license key from the Control Center > Help > License Key.
          • Close all running applications.
          • Navigate to your Documents folder > Right click on the 'NinjaTrader 8' folder > Rename > rename the folder to 'NinjaTrader 8 OLD'. DO NOT delete this folder.
          • Uninstall NinjaTrader within Windows Control Panel.
          • Navigate to C:\ > Program File (x86) > Delete the 'NinjaTrader 8' folder if it exists
          • Reboot your PC.
          • Once these steps are completed, download and install NT8 from the link below.
          • Once reinstalled, you will now have 2 NinjaTrader folders in your Documents, the old one and the new one. Open two file explorer windows and open the new one in one and the old one in another.
          • Drag the following items from the old folder to the new one (folders should automatically merge)
            • Config.xml and UI.xml
            • Workspaces folder (if it asks to overwrite the _Workspaces.xml file, say yes)
            • Templates folder (if it asks to overwrite anything, say no)
            • db folder (you can overwrite any files in here)
            • bin folder (do not overwrite ANY duplicate files).
          • Once complete, restart NinjaTrader. You may get a few initial errors. Open a NinjaScript Editor and run a compile, then, if no additional errors are received, restart NinjaTrader and try again to start Visual Studio from the button in the NinjaScript Editor and test.
Thanks in advance; I look forward to assisting you further.

Following your instructions, VS is asking to change the target to .NET4.6.1 or should I download .NETFramework, Version=v4.8?

              Hello sentient254,

              Thank you for your reply.

Yes, you'd want to download v4.8 and not change the target to 4.6.1. We updated the version of .NET that NinjaTrader uses fairly recently so that's why you're seeing that.

Thanks in advance; I look forward to assisting you further.
