    Market Analyzer--Candlestick Scanner

I use Market Analyzer to scan for specific candlestick patterns using the Candlestick Scanner in equities, specifically the S&P 500. Using it intraday on various minute charts it works fine. However, I'd like to be able to scan an end of day daily chart and I haven't been able to make this work. Even though the setting in the setup menu is to calculate 'on bar close' it does not appear to work like this in practice. It appears to only calculate once a new bar has opened, which makes scanning at the end of day impossible. I am also trying out the Nison Candle Scanner and I can't get it to work on the daily chart at the end of the day either. What am I missing? Thanks.

    Hello,

Can I confirm in the indicator's settings you have the 'input series' set to a daily interval?
Also, can I confirm you are using the candlestick pattern indicator, and if not which indicator is being used?

    Thanks in advance-

'input series' is set to 'close'. Yes, I'm using the candlestick pattern indicator.

Actually, I'm not having any luck with NT's candlestick scanner this morning. I run the Nison Candlestick Scanner in another Market Anlayzer window just so I can compare their results and it seems to be functioning normally, but the NT candlestick scanner is not.

            Hello,
In both screenshots you seem to have the data series set to a 15 minute interval. For a daily analysis, you would need to change this to a 1 day (daily) data series.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

LOL. Yes, I'm aware of that. I was just showing you the rest of the settings to see if anything else was amiss. I'm currently using it for intraday purposes.

I change the settings towards the end of the day to 'Type' = 'Day' 'Value' = '1' for the end of day scan of the daily chart which is the primary issue I'm wanting to resolve.

I apologize for creating any confusion. That was not my intention. I'm still wanting to resolve the end of day daily scan.

                  Hello,

If wanting to view the data in real-time, you would need to use a 'calculate' method of either 'on each tick' or 'on price change'. When set to 'on bar close', the close of a bar is registered when the first tick of a new bar is received, which for stocks would be the next morning.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks. That is very helpful. It gives me some ideas for potential work-around solutions.

Hi again. I am finding that if I run Market Analyzer in Setup->Calculate->'On Price Change' that NT just become completely overwhelmed and my charts and Market Analyzer get stuck in a perpetual 'Loading...' mode. I'm running NT on a desktop with an i7-8700 processor (12 cores with hyperthreading) with a base of 3.19Ghz, 32G of ram, and my internet connection is between 30-40 Mbps. When I go in and look at the processes while the machine is running nothing is close to being overloaded and the load looks pretty evenly distributed across the cores.

I realize that asking a machine to calculate 'on price change' is asking the machine to do a lot, but from what I'm seeing I'm not sure upgrading to a processor with more cores will be of much help. Can you offer any suggestions that might improve performance? Thanks.

You may be hitting a limitation on data requests or a symbol limit from your data provider. Who are you connected to for stock data?

I just got off the phone with TD Ameritrade support. They told me that I'm limited to 120 'hard quotes' a minute from TD Ameritrade, but if the data is 'streaming,' that is unlimited and there shouldn't be any data bottle neck. So my question to you is how are you quering the data from TD Ameritrade? The answer to that question should let me know if the issue is truly a data limitation or something else. TIA.

Data requests via TDA are cumulative for the session, so if you are requesting 500 symbols upon connect and the limit is 120, this would cause the limit to be hit 4 times before loading completely. Once the data is loaded completely does the platform still operate sluggishly?

If so, this is likely a performance based issue from calculating/processing a high number of symbols being 're-loaded' so frequently. While the CPU/RAM may not appear maxed out, it's possible your machine is restricting NinjaTrader from utilizing any more resources, as ultimately it is up to your OS as to which applications get which/how much PC resources.

I look forward to hearing from you.
