What data exactly is imported via Import -> Stock Symbol List?

    Hello,

Can you please advise on what data exactly is imported in NinjaTrader 8 terminal when I load symbols via Tools -> Import -> Stock Symbol List? I have done the following:

    1. I have imported 3 futures traded on Nymex (CL, NG and NN) specifying "Traded on" = Nymex, "Trading hours" = Nymex Metals - Energy ETH and adding these symbols to a newly created Instrument List (just so I have them in one place).

    2. Then I have loaded 2 daily data series: just added "CL" (which I suppose states for Crude Oil Futures traded on Nymex) and pre-added "CL ##-##" (which is also Crude Oil Futures traded on Nymex). But these data series have appeared to be different.

    3. What I am missing? What data was loaded under "CL" symbol when I have used the Import -> Stock Symbol List tool?

    Best regards,
    Alexei

    Hello Alexei,

Please note that this function is used to import stock instruments in NinjaTrader and not historical data. See the link below for more information.
    https://ninjatrader.com/support/help...stock_symb.htm

The CL data series shows data from the Colgate-Palmolive stock. Futures instruments always use an expiry month in the symbol in NinjaTrader.

If you like to create an instrument list, please see the instructions at the following link.

Please feel free to post any additional questions you may have.

      Hi Jason,

Ah, got it! Thank you for the explanation.

Regarding Instrument List: is there any way to create it automatically from a text file so there is no need to manually add each instrument? For example, how can I create an Instrument List more efficiently if I need to add there 500-1000 symbols?

      Best regards,
      Alexei

This is only possible for stock instruments using the Import Stock Symbol List feature. Unfortunately there is no way to import instruments (other than stocks) via a .txt file.
