    Volume bar question.

What is the difference between volume bars and tick bars?

    #2
    Hello Newtrader101,

Thank you for creating your post with this question today.

A volume bar will be based on a specific number of units traded (also known as the volume). A bar will develop until the specified volume value is reached, once that level is surpassed, a new bar will be created and it will repeat as that level is surpassed once more.

A tick bar on the other hand is based on the number of ticks rather than units traded (volume). A bar will develop until the specified number of ticks is reached, at that point the next tick will result with a new bar formed and developing.
