volume updating

I'm using the built in indicator VOL and it's not updating realtime (extremely low values like 1/100 or 1/1000 of correct value) on every bar but when I reload all historical data the volume changes and is correct.
I've looked at this when connected to IB and also TDAmeritrade and get same results from both brokers.
Is there a way to get real time volume from either of these 2 brokers?
Any other tools that need to use volume also are calculating with values that are 1/100 of the correct volume values.
