    Hello Jim...
"If you are having an issue setting up an alert, please open a new thread for a technician to assist you with how it should be set up."
    and thanks.
I don't have an issue setting up alerts:
    "....which are still unreliable"
but for the most part they are. Not something I'm going to spend more time on debugging further, but thanks for the offer.
    Kind regards,

      Hello Edge,
"Just a thought, but how about just overlaying your min bars over your seconds bars.... as an idea, something like this:"
Yes, thanks for the ideas. I've poked around your site a good bit previously.

My needs here are simpler though - when the markets get a little tasty, like they are at the moment, sometimes I may want to just drop a minute chart down to a faster one, say 10s to 'zoom in and 'micro-manage'', that's all. Me and thousands of others I'd guess..

Whilst I would rarely go down to Seconds, I have macros to toggle 15m, 5m, 1m, 10s - simple. Been doing it for years.

Now I can't ,so have added an extra tab for each instrument running a 10s chart, along with its incumbent set of extra multiple data series and OHL indicators.

I hotkey between tabs, so its easy enough and has the advantage of not having to load up.

The good to report is that my setup is unfazed by current conditions thus far, even with now a further 5x 10s charts etc.

The occasional OnBarUpdate error in the log 'because another thread owns it', but they've been popping up for a while and don't seem to be detrimental, so the other thread is welcome to it as far as I'm concerned!

      Best,

Ah yes.. you have slightly different needs.. I'm looking at eliminating various charts by overlaying that data..

I'm only guessing here.. But have you tried saving your DataSeries "Type" (Min and Sec) presets to the exact same values?

For whatever reason... any time you change a dataseries Type (Min, Sec, Tick, Range) the default/saved preset template of that type gets used and overrides whatever it was you previously had set..

If you have 30 days preset for Minute and 3 days preset for Seconds (or anything different), you'll experience that change. Personally don't care for this approach, but currently is what it is..

Try going into the DataSeries properties window.. and Saving your Min and Sec Types all with the same days to load, chart styles, and so forth.. Then create a new chart and try to switch between the different data series..

        Does that help?

Again, only guessing here, but it's probably due to UI or rendering issue, which is why it doesn't seem to be having ill will effects.. But this wouldn't be something I would ignore..

Hello Edge & thanks, as ever.
          On DataSeries type Defaults:
I appreciate the helpful assistance. I believe I have this aspect covered off. But keep in mind I'm no expert in the inner workings of NT & I fiddle with it as infrequently as possible, albeit that has been orders of magnitude more than I had hoped. So I might be missing where you're coming from.
Simply put, my issue, subject of the thread I started - I think we've hopped into wrong thread here, is that I want(ed)/was able to switch a minute denominated chart to a second denominated by typing onscreen (or macro). It would load my Default Second settings with appropriate days to load, z-axis scale 'zoomed in' etc. Switch back to Minute, back to its own Default appropriate settings, x-axis scale etc.
IIRC, even if you save your own Defaults, if you use the Menu method to select, you still get Platform Defaults but not if you type in 10s onscreen - but I could be mistaken.
So this is a problem I had addressed by personalising each Default.

The problem NT have introduced in 8, is with the use of multiple data series (more than 2!?) (which I need for Sessions).
My understanding is (& behaviour observed & reported for investigation & confirmed) that if you change Min to Sec & have 3 or more data series it forces platform defaults. Which, if you're following performance guidelines for multi series - transparent, LOC etc breaks everything.
So I don't believe what you are suggesting is 'on it', but thanks & correct me if I'm missing it.

Re: error, thanks. With no add-ons, stock platform only, it still does it, occasionally.
I raised it with Support some time ago but didn't get anywhere so left it. If it's only a little bit broke....

          Best,

            Hello brucerobinson,

In regards to the OnBarUpdate errors, they would be coming from a component that is added to the chart.

If we can break this down to standard NinjaTrader components, we would definitely want to report the matter to our Development team. I would like to keep the thread on the current topic and address the OnBarUpdate errors over email, however.

Could you email me a workspace file that only has the components needed to reproduce the issue, and let use know some specific steps we can take to hit the threading related OnBarUpdate error? We could import the workspace on our end, take the steps to reproduce, and then report it to our Development team if we can hit the same issue with standard components.

You can email me at [email protected] with the text "Attn Jim 2445991 OnBarUpdate errors" and a link to this forum thread.

Workspace files are saved in the Documents\NinjaTrader 8\workspaces folder.

Please also include log and trace files when writing in so we can ensure you are on the latest version of the platform.

            We look forward to assisting.
