Is the vix an instrument that we can use. I see it load but not updating

The VX future is pre-defined in the NinjaTrader Instrument window. This is trading with extremely low volume (only a few ticks appear in a minute) but is trading at this time.
You will need a real-time data subscription with your broker or data provider.
