Description Field in Need of Clean Up

    Hello,

Are there any plans to clean up the 'Description' field in NT/Kinetick? Some are upper/lower case, some all caps, many are just blank. And some are wrong, e.g., Western Digital Corp listed as WDC (correct) and WCD (wrong).

    Thank you,
    Efrem

I believe the main difference here is instruments that are built into NinjaTrader and then instruments that are not built in but imported in some way. For example, in your screenshot AMZN (a built in instrument) has lower case information. BYND (not built in) is all caps. The all caps information is the raw data being received about that instrument through your connection. Unfortunately NinjaTrader would have no control over how Kinetick or any data provider decides to supply instrument information.

The WDC/WCD item seems to be a duplicate/mistake of that built in instrument. I'll forward this to the Product Management Team for review.

The Product Management Team plans to 'clean up' built in instruments at some point in the future, however, I do not have any timeline on when that would be completed.

For the other issues with descriptions of non-built in instruments, you'll need to manually edit those by going to Tools > Instruments > Select the instrument > edit > Change the description as you desire > OK.

          Great, thank you.

So what is the order of events for this field? Populated first by NT, if NT doesn't populate then primary data provider (Kinetick)? Is there a way to subsequently have a secondary provider/broker like IB populate?

Or if users are really required to manually input themselves, is there a way to do a mass upload?

If the instrument is built into NinjaTrader's database, it will be pre-populated from the installation of NinjaTrader.

If NinjaTrader has no information about the instrument, the instrument is 'built' into the database with whatever information is received from your data provider. There is no way to mass update these instruments.
