    Custom Computer Monitor Resolution

    Hello,

I set up my new 32 inch monitor on my new PC, and it is nice, but it increases the font size and graphics to not give me that much more real estate on the screen.

So I found a Youtube video that shows how to create a custom, larger screen resolution for a monitor.

My questions are, is the increased resolution likely to put a strain on my video card when the markets are moving fast? Or is it likely not to be noticeable?

In your opinion, will it slow my computer, or cause more resources to be used which can cause computer freezing, when analyzing the markets with NT8?

    I have a new PC...

    Processor: Intel Core i7-8700K CPU @ 3.70GHz
    RAM: 16.0 GB
    64-bit Windows 10 Home OS
Video Card: 6 monitor support - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 2GB (two cards)
    Primary Hard Drive: 250 GB
    Additional Hard Drive: 2 TB

    Thanks,

You have windows 10,which solved these type of issues.

Go into win10 display and set scale and layout to 100% for that monitor.

      Hi Sledge,

I messed around with the Display Settings on day 1. My maximum resolution for this new monitor is 1920 x 1080, which was the default setting.

And the scale and layout was also set at 100% by default.

Those settings gave me little more real estate from my 27 inch monitor.

        Hello i2w8am9ii2,

At higher resolution more work is being done by the GPU for drawing.

        However, 1920 x 1080 is pretty standard.

Its impossible to predict what indicators will use how much resources with the number of charts and data being processed. Theres a lot of variables that affect performance.

The best way to find out is to test.

          Thanks for your reply Chelsea,

I will test out creating a custom resolution that is higher than what my 32" monitor has (1920 x 1080) and see if it affects the performance in a noticeable way.

Remember, a 21 in monitor at 1920x1080 has the same real estate as a 50 in. monitor at 1920x1080. Also, if you push the resolution somehow to something other than the native resolution you will likely not have an image as sharp as at native.

              Hi eDanny,

Yes, I wish I thought of resolution beforehand.

But my new 32" monitor did give me about 1 1/4" of new real estate vertically, but it did not give me any new real estate horizontally.

At least the graphics and text are larger, which is less strain on the eyes.
