why do I keep getting this error?

From just the error I couldn't say what may be happening, do you have more details surrounding the situation where you see this? Is there a specific action you are doing or does this occur with a custom script?

im using a customed chart type...unirenko.....for some reason it gives me this error when i run my strategy with it

If you have a specific situation where you see this and both items are source code, that is likely something you could further investigate. If you are only seeing this when applying the strategy, it is very likely related to the strategy in some way. Is this a strategy you created? If so, you may be able to work backwards by commenting out logic until you locate what toggles the error on/off.

The thing I dont understand is the difference between negative values and subtracting a value

What part are you having trouble with? In one case the value is below 0, in the other case you are taking away an amount from the other value you are subtracting from.
