Disable search function when entering text on a chart

    Hello,

I am trying to add an input text box on a chart which will be used in a ninjascript strategy, however when I am trying to input a text in the added text box, an automatic search tool appears not allowing me to input anything into the box. Is there a way that I can turn off this search tool from appearing?

    Hello akuntysh,

    Thank you for your post.

Glad to assist. To add text, try using the right click > Text drawing tool instead.

Likely what is coming up is the chart Overlay Selector which cannot be disabled. This can be used to change chart instruments, intervals or types. See the below section of our help guide for more.

See "Changing and Adding Instruments and Intervals with the Keyboard"

Let us know if we may assist further.

      Hello Eric,

Thank you for your answer! I will consider using the Text drawing tool instead.

I am interested in same. I have a CUSTOM C# TextBox on chart, where i want to enter text. When I start doing that, the SEARCH WINDOW APPEARS:

How can i disable that behavior? i want to input text in box.

              Hello,

Thank you all for your notes.

There is no means to override the chart's Instrument Selector that pops up when typing on the chart.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Well you guys do this after 4 years. It's not that hard to make a checkbox in settings.

I would also be happy if the search box could be switched off completely. It happens to me all the time that I trigger the "Search Box" with a hotkey e.g. "Center on the DOM" Ctrl-M and the trade is over...

                      Hello Zachary,

thanks for counting the vote. I'm curious, to see if it will find its way.

It's possible to create an addon that will ignore letter keys on all charts, except keys with modifiers like Ctrl, Shift, Alt. This way, you can still use hotkeys for drawing, order management etc but w/o triggering that annoying instrument selector. I have implemented this logic into one of my strategies, and it works but I haven't it tried within addon.

                          Hi Leeroy_Jenkins,
thank you very much for the hint to solve the problem with an addon. I've never integrated an addon into ninja before, but I'll follow the approach.
