    Can't close position opened by strategy

    Hi there,

    I was testing with a strategy and it opened a position on the Sim account, and that position has stayed open and now I can't get rid of it. I can see it the Positions tab of the Control Center window every time I start NinjaTrader, and if I right click on it and Close it says Order Submitted, and then after a 10 - 20 secs a dialogue pops up that says:
    "Sim101, There is no market data available to drive the simulation engine. affected Order: Sell 2 Market"

    How can I close this order?

    We advise that you reset your simulation account to address this item.

    Resetting a simulation account will clear all historical trade data from this account. Please follow the instructions below to reset a simulation account.
    • From the NinjaTrader Control Center window select the Accounts tab
    • Right click on your simulation account and select Edit Account
    • Press the "Reset" button

    Please feel free to write in with any additional NinjaTrader items we may assist with.

      Eric,

      Thanks for the response. This has solved the problem. Why did this happen, could it happen with a live account and if so how would you solve it in that case as you actually need to close the position at the exchange with a live account.

        Was this position in a now-expired contract? If so, then the reason this occurred is you left a position open for an expired contract and there is no longer any market data available to place an order to close that position.

        In live trading, your broker would have liquidated your position before the settlement date of the contract. In general, in live trading, you should be contacting your broker's orders desk first when there is any live trading questions or concerns.

            I had this problem yesterday on Ninjatrader. I'm trading an account thru Topstep. I opened a trade after the US GDP data came out. The trade went into profit, but when I tried to close, it locked down on me, and I couldn't close manually. I got this message popup:
