Daily SMA on 1 hour chart?

    Hi,

How do you place a daily simple moving average onto a one hour chart?

    Thanks,

    Jason

    Hello Jason,

This is possible by adding 2 data series in 1 chart.

Please open a new chart and add 2 data series in the chart - 1 Day and 60 Minute.

Open the Indicator menu of the chart and add the SMA indicator.

Click the Input series setting and select the ES 09-17 Daily data series and set Price type to Close.

Set Panel to the same panel as the 60 Minute data series. This way the SMA is calculated on daily bars, but is plotted on 60 Minute bars.

If you do not want to display the daily data series, please click and hold the horizontal line that separates the 2 panels and move up or down until only the 60 Minute data series is shown.

        Hello iceman600,

Thank you for posting on the NinjaTrader forums.

Could you please explain further what is not working as intended? I've created a chart for myself this morning to test on version 8.1.4.1 and can see that it works as intended. You're also encouraged to your share your data series' settings if you'd like for us to take a look.

        Thank you in advance!

              Hello iceman600,

This is expected because of the difference in timeframes; one panel is using a daily chart while the other uses a 30 minute chart. Ideally you want to use the same type of timeframes otherwise you can expect the line to be missing and candles to be offset.

              Thank you in advance.

That was the idea of the post…to put a daily SMA on a different timeframe. Duh

I want to do the same thing. Why in the world would you take away this feature? I'm so close to switching platforms again. Not sure why I came back to NT.
