    NT8 Fatal error can't debug indicator

    I am having an intermittent issue where NT8 is crashing but I can't figure out where the bug is coming from. I'm guessing there is some sort of fatal error. Every once in a while I get an exception stating

    System.NullReferenceException in PresentationCore.dl

    System.NullReferenceException in NinjaTraer.Core.dll

    I only started noticing this error after moving to the BarsRequest a couple weeks ago. The error is intermittent as well but now is occurring more often. Deleting the _Workspaces.xml file seems to make it more 'stable' sometimes, but not always.

    Thank you for the post.

    I would be interested to hear more about this situation. Can you tell me, have you been able to see any errors that relate to your specific item using a BarsRequest to know that is the cause? Or have you been able to isolate this down to a specific item at this point?

    If the workspace seems to settle the error for a short time, this could potentially not be related and that only resolves the actual error temporarily by changing whatever is causing the error.

    If you have isolated this further and know a specific item is a cause, I could suggest to further test this item by its self in the workspace with no other items running to see if the same outcome happens. You could also email the item into our support for testing to see if we reach the same result.

    If you have not yet isolated the cause, I could suggest to try and reduce what is loaded in the workspace or in the platform. you could also do a clean installation and import only the script you think may be the cause and re test. If you needed further direction on creating clean install's or any other installation steps please let me know and I can provide more details.

      I don't see any errors related specifically to the BarsRequest.

      The problem mostly occurs if I load the same indicator on different workspaces. It causes ninja to crash and doesn't leave any logs or traces. The odd thing is that it seems to calculate everything correctly, display the result to chart and then crash a second later. I've tried commenting out the OnRender section, but it still leads to a crash so something else is going on.

        And how many workspaces do you have open?


        Does it happen with only the current workspace open?

            I'm replying on behalf of my colleague Jesse.

            I have attempted to add a BarsRequest indicator to separate charts in separate workspaces, but I have not been able to encounter the exception.

            If you have been able to confirm that this occurs when imported into a clean installation of NinjaTrader, could you reduce the NinjaScript to a barebones sample that only reproduces the issue so we can look into the matter on our end? (A clean installation can be done by closing NinjaTrader, renaming the platform folder "Documents/NinjaTrader 8", uninstalling from the Windows Control Panel, and then reinstalling)

            You can attach the NinjaScript here, or you may write into platformsupport[at]ninjatrader[dot]com with the text "Attention Jim" with the thread URL and the strategy attached.
