backup the indicator & strategies folders?

does the following make sense?

somehow include the indicator & strategies folders files in the export backup file list?
in other words ... backup the indicator & strategies folders. see attachment

Thanks for opening the thread.

You can create a back up of all of your NinjaScript files (strategies indicators and other custom add-ons) by selecting the "NinjScript files" check box when creating a back up. This complete back up will have all of your NinjaScripts de-referenced so they can be moved from one platform to another. This will include NinjaScripts that have been compiled into a DLL format as well.

If you would like to specify certain indicators and strategies to be exported, you can use the Export NinjaScript option in the Tools > Export menu from the Control Center. This will also be able to export compiled DLL's so they can be imported to another platform "or backed up" without referencing issues.

so does this mean that if my indicators and/or strategies are messed up, i can restore everything to the state at time of backup by simply importing that which was exported?

Hello joemiller,

That's correct.

If you want to revert your strategies and indicators, you can import an exported back up to overwrite them.

is it true that i can copy/paste the indicator and/or strategy folders to an external hard drive [for instance], and at some later time copy/paste them back to the ninja trader 8 folder with confidence that no problems will be created by doing so?

No, copying sections of the NinjaTrader platform folder is not recommended as the process could easing cause referencing issues with your add-ons.

We advise to use the built-in Back-Up and Export functionality within the NinjaTrader platform to create reliable back ups of your platform and/or NinjaScripts.
