There is no easy workaround.

The property that is already 'exposed' for this use is:

Core.Globals.GeneralOptions.TimeZoneInfo;

This is the TimeZone selected in the Tools > Options. We will look to add supported documentation for this and flag it as part of our supported API for next release but no reason you couldn't start using it now.

I had thought that it is a very basic property and that is must be hiding somewhere!

So it was there all the time, and nobody knew about it.
