Discrepency in values

Why is there a discrepancy between higher timeframe daily calculations and intraday calculations:

for instance when secondary series is set to daily and daily chart is the primary series i get a different value for the ATR compared to when the primary series becomes an intraday/minute chart, here the ATR value is slightly higher? Is this always the case when going from higher timeframe daily series to intraday?

Daily bars come from the data provider in a specific trading hours so the platforms trading hours settings to not apply to those series, when using intraday data that will use the charts settings for trading hours which could differ. You can use a 1440 minute bar in place of daily if you wanted to supply a daily bar based on intraday data instead.

Is it possible to extract the ATR value based on the daily chart (when it is a secondary series) and have the calculations be correct when the primary series is a 2min chart? I am new to NinjaTrader and coding but I'm trying to learn. My first indicator is coming together but I cannot get past this piece. Either I have to accept the discrepancy in the ATR values (which throws off my indicator by 1-4 ticks..... I do not like looking at different values when comparing the daily chart and the 2min chart, its more of a psychological thing) or I see if there is a work around?

You could do that but you would still hit the same difference as comparing daily vs intraday, you could use a secondary series of 1440 minute bars to make sure the trading hours between the daily bar and minute bars are the same.
