Seeking Guidance on Accessing Indicator Data via NinjaTrader API or SDK

    Hello NinjaTrader Developer Community,

I hope you're all doing well. I'm reaching out to seek some guidance and advice on accessing indicator data programmatically within the NinjaTrader platform.

As a trader looking to automate my trading strategy, I heavily rely on specific indicators for market analysis. These indicators play a crucial role in identifying potential trading opportunities and optimizing trade execution.

I'm particularly interested in exploring the possibility of accessing the output data of these indicators through either the NinjaTrader API or SDK. My goal is to integrate this indicator data seamlessly into my automated trading systems to enhance their performance and effectiveness.

Could anyone in the community provide insights, tips, or resources on how I can go about achieving this? I'm eager to learn more about the process of retrieving indicator data programmatically and integrating it into my trading strategies.

Additionally, if anyone has had experience working with indicators and the NinjaTrader API or SDK, I would greatly appreciate any advice or best practices you can share. Understanding any potential challenges or limitations associated with accessing indicator data via the API or SDK would also be valuable.

Thank you all in advance for your assistance and expertise. I'm looking forward to hearing from fellow developers and traders who have insights to offer on this topic.

    Best regards,
    Steve.

    Hello Steve,

Thank you for your post and welcome to the NinjaTrader forum community!

This thread will certainly remain open for anyone to chime in with their advice and ideas that might help you out. Are the indicators you are referring to indicators that come with NinjaTrader by default, indicators that you developed, or indicators that were imported from a third party? Depending on the answer, this could have an effect on the availability of data from the indicators.
Is your trading strategy and the automated trading systems created outside of and communicate/interface with NinjaTrader? API support is very limited though more information may be found here:

One option for getting data exported from NinjaTrader is to use StreamWriter to write to a text file. You could then have the outside program read the data from the text file and parse through it for whatever it needs. We have an example of using StreamWriter here:

I do hope some other developers with more direct experience with what you are looking for are able to chime in. Otherwise, feel free to ask any questions.

    Thank you for using NinjaTrader.
