    Prevent Snapping to Plot

Is it possible to have a plot that does not allow a drawing tool to snap to it?

When trying to snap to a bar (Snap Mode is Bar and Price), where the plot is close to the low/high of the bar, it's quite likely the drawing tool will snap to the plot rather than to the bar.

    Hi, thanks for posting.

The snapping will only apply to panels with a price series in them (with bars in the panel), and is not affected by plot lines. Can you share how you are setting up the chart and drawing tool so that a drawing tool snaps to a plot? In my test with an SMA applied in the price panel and a stochastic indicator applied in it's own panel, no snapping is applied when I draw a horizontal or vertical line.

    Kind regards,
    -ChrisL

      Hi ChrisL

I have just tried with an SMA in the price panel (I have no other panels), and Fibonacci Retracement snaps to the SMA plot.

        Hi, thanks for your reply.

The drawing tools snap to either price or the timestamp of the bars on the chart. If you want no snapping to occur, right click>go to Drawing Tools>Snap Mode>Disabled.

        Best regards,

          Hi ChrisL

I require Snap Mode > Bar and Price, otherwise it's not easy to attach Fib retracement to the correct location.

Does the timestamp 'sit' on the plot?

Hi, thanks for the follow up. The timestamps are at the bottom of the chart, and you will see one time stamp for each bar, so the snap setting for timestamps is called "bar".

              Hi Chris

Thank you for explaining, but I'm just not getting why a tool would snap to a plot.

                Hi, thanks for your reply.

Could you send a video of the drawing tool snapping to an indicator plot? It is not happening in my tests. The drawing tools should only snap to the bar time stamp or the price at each tick level. I like to use the application called "Tiny Take" to send screen videos easily.

                Kind regards,
                -ChrisL

I've done the video but this forum is not letting me upload. In what format does the file need to be?

Hi, The forum will not accept video files, you will need to either upload it to youtube or use a sharing service like Tiny Take or ScreenCast to show the video on the forum.

Hi, thanks for posting the video. I do see the drawing tool snapping now. Unfortunately this is the default behavior and there is no way to ignore the snapping unless the plot is rendered using SharpDX in the OnRender method. I attached an example on how to do this.

                        Best regards,
                        -ChrisL

Thanks Chris, that's what I needed to know.
