Different MA values coming out of the same data series

This may show with other indicators but I only tried EMA. Let’s say I have a customized indicator. I can add this indicator to a chart, then I can add EMA indicator that uses the custom indicator as input series. Or I can calculate the same EMA inside that custom indicator and plot it. Sth like: internalEMA[0]=EMA(customind, N)[0] in either onbarupdate or onmarketdataupdate

now if you plot both values in the same chart, sometimes the two give different EMA values, not significant most of the time but just make me curious if sometimes one way can become unreliable?

    Hello dodoei,

On the chart are you setting the Input Series to the EMA, the same as the indicator is called in a script and supplied to the EMA?

If the data is the same, the output will be the same. The plots on the chart will have rounded values though.

Below is a link to a video that demonstrates with a simple custom indictor that calculates the range of the high and low.
