Using OnRender on one time drawings

My indicator uses SharpDX to draw some rectangles and text to serve as an Information Box in my Indicator pane. My question is, since these never change, am I wasting resources by drawing them over and over in OnRender? I'm a self taught programmer and I just want to make sure that I am not missing some design approach that might only draw them once and therefore be more efficient or if I shouldn't worry about it.

    Hello swcooke,

    Thank you for your post.

No, you're not wasting resources by drawing them on each pass through OnRender(). SharpDX resources can be disposed of and recreated in OnRenderTargetChange() for better performance, but everything has to be drawn with every render pass if we want to see it. Basically, if it isn't drawn in the pass, it isn't displayed on the screen.

Here's a link to our help guide on OnRenderTargetChanged():

Please let us know if we may be of further assistance to you.
