Drawing tool defaults will not save

I've developed a drawing tool which draws a line on the chart. There is a PathBrush property which is exposed and can be set through the Drawing Object properties. I'm able to change the color of the PathBrush property through the properties dialog however when I try to set this property as "Default" it doesn't actually save. The problem appears to be specific to saving the color in any template, not just "Default". When I save and load any template, the color is not changed (it still reflects the default defined in the code, not the value overridden from the dialog box). To be clear, changing the property actually changes the color of the line, but I can't seem to save/load it to/from a template. Is there something I'm missing here which is preventing this from working as expected?

Are there any errors appearing on the Log tab of the Control Center when trying to save a default template?

Is the object being properly converted to a string and serialized?
