Custom market analyzer column alert

I have a pretty simple custom column with an alert attached that seemed to be working...now I notice it sometimes NT stops triggering the alert and I have to turn in off and on again for it to start working. The column is set to "1" for true "0" for false and the alert is set to trigger when value is "1"...I see the column change to "1" but no alert. If I disable then re-enable, the alert will work for a seemingly random amount of time, then stop again. As soon as I hit "apply" to re-enable the alert, any symbols currently "true" fires the alert. Another odd thing - the column is part of another multiple condition alert that may keep firing while the single condition alert doesn't fire. Any ideas how I can track down what causes the alert to stop working?

Thank you for the post.

From the given details nothing sticks out as to what may cause the random amounts of time you described. Is this something you can reproduce over and over even if it is random amounts of time between occurrences?

If you can work out the steps needed to see this happen we could explore the code you used and the situation further to see why that may be happening. If this is something you cannot reliably recreate, you may want to try some tests to see if you can reproduce the problem with more simple tests to try and understand the specifics of that situation better. You could try creating a couple of extra columns which do more simple conditions to cause an alert. This could be used to check if those fail randomly as well. By more simple I mean something like checking a cross condition or a very basic condition that is different than what you currently use.

Yeah I'm unable to re-create the problem so far... and it looks like it's just missing the alert sometimes, not necessarily stopping and needing a reset to get it going again as I previously thought was going on. For example, I just witnessed the column change to "1" for 3 symbols - only 1 alert for one of the symbols was sent. It would be great if you could look at my code-I've been trying for quite some time with much difficulty to get a simple custom column working - it could very well be I've made a mistake in my code.

Thank you for providing the code, can you also provide how you set up the condition for the alert? The code is fairly simple so I can try this on my end to see if that also happens for me also.

I have quite a few alerts and now I'll keep an eye out to see if any others are missing triggers or if it's just the one with my custom code.

Well the condition for the alert is insidebar ="1" ...
and yes with that custom code as the custom market analyzer column.
If you set it to 1 or 2 min bars for a few symbols it should happen often enough

Since I am seeing an alert sometimes with the condition in a multiple condition alert fire (inside bar + some other condition) and not the single condition (inside bar), I'm starting to wonder if the problem lies AFTER the alert - I have the alerts sharing to a file...I'm wondering if there is a collision and somehow that causes the alert not to make it to the alert log (I had assumed it would still make it to the alert log). I turned off the share to file to see if I'm still miss alerts.

Thank you for the additional details. Yes that could be a possibility, if the column you are using is more complex than what you provided, you may try to reduce some of the extra features until the alert question can be solved.

Also when you say alert log, are you referring to a file of alerts you are making or the actual alerts log? The New -> Alerts window would be another good test to see if the missed alerts are showing up in that window. If you see the alerts logged in the actual alerts window, but did not hear anything or the other actions didn't happen it could relate to the item you mentioned. You can also check the Tools -> Options -> General -> Play consecutively. This option just helps if the alerts are happening at the same time and you are not hearing one.

by Alerts log - I mean the NT alerts log you open and see a list of the alerts. The alert is not showing up in there at times.

For some reason I can't edit my last post with pic - just to clarify: the custom market analyzer column shows the value "1" correctly , but the alert that is set on that column for value="1" does not show up in the Ninja Trader Alerts Log at "seemingly random" times.

Thank you for your posts. Can you please point me in the right direction? I'm trying to have the Trend Lines indicator generate signals in the Market Analyzer. Do you have any suggestions as to how to get it to work? thanks in advance!

with the share turned off - only a sound playing when the custom column value = 1 - The alerts are not firing on every instance of the column value = 1. They seem to get "jammed up" - If I dis able and re-enable the alert while any cell values are = "1", the alerts play one by one and sometimes sound twice. I'm going to turn off NinjaTraders alert sounds and see if I have better luck.
