Call Drawing tools from custom button

Is it possible to call a drawing tool from a custom menu button?

For example: I have a custom button on the chart. When clicked I would like it to act the same as when clicking the drawing tools list and selecting that drawing tool.

Currently the only way i can do this is through InputSimulator and hotkeys. (this is also the only way I've seen anyone with custom drawing tool bars do it as well)

Back in beta this was being discussed as something that would likely be implemented later. Is this something that's still being looked at?

I'm only aware of getting the hotkeys and invoking the handler.

There is a feature request for triggering initiation of manual drawing objects from script being tracked with ID #SFT-1412 that has not been implemented at this time.
I'm happy to add your vote to this.
