Is it possible to write an indicator that saves a chart image at regular intervals to hard drive? So if for example there is a strategy running on a chart and regular screenshots say once per hour are required could this be automated? Is there any sample code for this?

We do not have any documentation on this subject. However, you could find an example script in the forum thread linked below that demonstrates a way to save an image of a chart.
