Writing to the NT trace file from an assembly

Hello,

I've always used System.Diagnostics.Trace.WriteLine() to print message to the NT trace file (NinjaTrader 8/trace/trace.<date/count>.txt) from NinjaScript source code. This does not work (no prints appear in the trace file) when running the NinjaScript as an assembly. How can I print to the trace file from an assembly?

Hello TradeAbove_Josh,

In general there's not a supported way to write to the trace file, as that is a diagnostic tool our support uses for inquiries there is no NinjaScript method for that file specifically. You can log information by using the Log function: https://ninjatrader.com/support/helpGuides/nt8/log.htm

Keep in mind that logging custom data to the log file is generally not the best idea because that does appear in the control center window. If you output a lot of data it could cause slowness so that is generally best left to platform events. Most times it is suggested to just write to your own log file if you wanted to save data, you can use the C# file functions for that: https://ninjatrader.com/support/help...o_write_to.htm
