Visual Studio The Application is in Break Mode

    Hi,

I am running into an issue that occurs whenever I want to attempt to debug any of my indicators or strategies. I enter into debug mode on the NinjaScript editor, and then attach the NinjaScript process to Visual Studio, and then get this error "The Application is in Break Mode." Then this window pops up that says "Exception Unhandled: An unhandled exception of type 'System.ExecutionEngineException' occurred in Unknown Module." When I either detach NinjaScript, or Stop Debugging, NinjaTrader completely shuts down without saving any changes and I have to open it back up again. I'm not sure when this error occurred, why, or how to fix it. I tried looking it up, but most of the answers I found were in technical language too advanced for me, or I tried them and it didn't work.

I wouldn't mind completely restarting and resetting my entire Ninjatrader platform, as the entire thing has gotten pretty messy, but every time I reinstall NinjaTrader it loads up all my old stuff.

What should/can I do to get this issue resolved?

Thank you so much for your time and help!

    Hello Kreyenhagen,

    Thanks for the post.

You are correct a good place to start would be with a clean installation. As visual studio is an external application and the error does not provide any detail on what is throwing an exception it would be best to start with a clean slate to make sure thats not something imported causing a problem.

The reason your data comes back is that the user folder is not removed during uninstall/re installs.

To make a clean install you can first rename the folder Documents/NinjaTrader 8 to NinjaTrader 8.Old. Now when you uninstall/re install it will generate a clean user folder. The platform looks for the NinjaTrader 8 folder in the documents folder.

Another item to try would be to open the Exceptions window in visual studio and uncheck all boxes for all types of exceptions so no exceptions will enter break mode. If you are just looking to use breakpoints you can likely just turn the exceptions off completely.
